Default how to remove vin # from dash

I recently purchased a Si dash and need to remove the existing vin and put my CRX vin onto it. How would I go upon removing them with minor modification.

Minus the illegalities of it - I don't even know if you are allowed to remove a vin without approval - isn't it a rivet?

Yes, it has rivets, but there should be a way of removal without it being very noticeable...I broke my dash to get it out, just need a safe way of removing it from the Si dash.

I know here they say that you have to have highway patrol there to make it legal and you have to use rivets as close as possible to factory

That may be the case. So I'll probably head the the junk yard and take me extra vin # to find a way in taking it off. But then again the only reason cops look at your vin is when you get a parking tickets. I've gotten 3 traffic tickets on my s2k and no cop has looked at the vin.

Drill the rivet out with a small drill bit.
Then add new rivites.

It shouldn't be that bad, if I didn't get caught stripping out an s2k in my driveway, it should be difficult changing rivets.

Yeah because people never change out a blue/brown/maroon/broken dash for a black dash.

I personally drilled the rivets out with s small bit and used new rivets to swap dashes with the two EFs I owned at the same time.

I had my red EF get t-boned so when I bought a white DX I swapped dashes and VIN plates before I sold the t-boned red EF with it's "new" blue dash. I did so to kep the VIN numbers matching.

The same "sketchy" remarks can be made about "how to swap an engine at your house" if one thinks it will aid thieves in stripping a stolen car of its engine/

use a 1/8 drill bit and drill the rivets out. Then use some new 1/8 rivets to re-install. It will look stock

Sure. Ultimately, it is impossible to tell what is really going on. I agree that it is an arbitrary argument. Just the way I felt when I first saw the post and I didn't feel like contributing to this. Swapping vins and swapping engines is hardly the same thing. Done.

the only way i see swapping vin plates being sketchy is when you are trying to take vin plates from one car and put them into another. THAT is where you get into big trouble. that can be automatic jail time, at least where i live. like it was already stated, its not like people dont replace broken dashes or get rid of ugly colored dashes for black dashes every day. as long as every vin plate on the car matches, and is to that actual car, there is no problem at all. my friend has done 2 rhd conversion in hatches he's owned and put his vin plate on the jdm dash in the proper location, got pulled over once and had no problems at all.

btw, i'm getting ready to swap dashes in both my integra and my hatch for black dashes and will be swapping the vin plates from the old dashes to the new ones.

Understandable. I used to be in the Bimmer scene (specifically E30's and 2002's) and swapping dashes was very common, due to most of them being cracked.

hey sorry to crash your thread but does anyone know WHERE we can find these rivets that look similar to oem? esp since most hardware stores sell plain silver rivets. i need to rivet my vin too but the oem eg rivets are black... anyone know a place online i can find some similar rivets?

I don't see any problem with swapping vin plates on the dash. its when you go to cut the vin off the firewall that will get you into trouble.
