huge difference, ITR trans is LSD and closer gear ratio then GSR. Will be a day-night difference.

that depends on which ITR trans he gets. all US ITR trans had 4.4 final drives, which is the same final drive thats in the GSR.

the 98+ JDM ITR had the 4.78 FD

id honestly just get a new ITR LSD and just put that in your GSR trans if you're running a boosted setup

keep the Gsr trans if you are planning on boosting it. The gears a little longer, which keep the car in boost a little longer.

ITR transmissions are very good for all motor applications because they are quick reving and the gears are short. They help the motor get up to vtec quicker.

But yea, the best thing you can do is buy an ITR LSD or a quaife and put that in the transmission that you already have. IT would be way more beneficial to your setup...

ok run a turbo gsr with an itr tranny against the same turbo gsr with a gsr tranny and the ITR trans'ed version will win everytime. you won't run out of gears with an ITR trans on any 1/4 strip unless you have like 500whp or more.

you longer gears = more boost time guys are morons.

i thought the usdm type r and gsr used the same gearing? both have s80 wd4 on them right? the itr just had the lsd. there is a sweet vid on youtube that a forum member pointed out to me on the install. not simple but anyone who is skilled enough to do something like set cam clearance should be able to do it.

The ITR is alot of fun to drive around on the streets, but the high RPM's on the freeway sucks.
Just depends on what you want to do with it.
For drag, it depends on where you want to be when you cross the line. The ITR doesn't fit well with anything over ~350HP, because you will need to shft to 5th before you cross the line, but it does launch really well with the LSD.

you know, the only true way to find out whats better for you at this point is to try both options out. i can picture you putting in the ITR trans and loving it, but that doesnt necessarily mean that you wouldnt love the GSR also.

Gear Ratios for USIM B18B1 (LS) / B18C1 (GS-R) / B18C5 (Type R):

1st 3.230 / 3.230 / 3.230
2nd 1.900 / 1.900 / 2.105
3rd 1.289 / 1.360 / 1.458
4th 0.966 / 1.034 / 1.107
5th 0.714 / 0.787 / 0.848
Final Drive 4.266 / 4.400 / 4.400
Reverse 3.000 / 3.000 / 3.000

Having used both trannies at the same time (owning both a GS-R and an ITR), I would NOT describe the difference as "night and day". For example, comparing the GS-R with the Type R, both have the same gearing in first gear; by the time you reach fifth gear, at 4000 RPM you'll be going around 75 mph in the Type R, 80 mph in the GS-R. Not a huge difference.

However, if you need to replace the tranny anyway (which we recently did with our GS-R), you may as well get the Type R tranny, since they're exactly the same price and you get the LSD with the Type R one.

that's what i was scratching my head about. when people talk about the different ratios it's like: are you serious?

If you're serious about performance, that LS 5th is going to kill you.

yeah i was say to keep the gsr one. the ls one is good but you're going to need a lot of boost to make up for the 5th gear.
