Default Enging about to blow?

So, my oil pressure light just came on. It's a 99 acura integra, is it gonna blow?

I know that is a ridiculous question, but what would people advice in this situation? I don't want to bring in the car, pay $$$ if it's just something I could possible fix myself.

typically when the oil light comes on it is too late for the engine. But this isn't always the case.

check your engine oil level. that's always a start.

late in the life of a motor they start burning oil. like the above says, check your oil, you may have to add oil every xxx number of miles. before i blew up my gsr it was going through a quart every 2 tanks of gas.

Yeah, the engine had VERY little oil. In fact there was no oil showing up on the dip stick when I checked. I added some and the light went off. Looks like the engine is burning oil or leaking oil somewhere....

Wouldn't a leak cause the oil pressure light to always come on though? Wouldn't a leak cause low pressure?

Not really...at least not to the point where it could cause the factory oil indicator to light up.

Unfortunately that light doesn't come on until there is about 4.5psi of oil pressure AT the sensor. Which is why in many cases once the light has come on it is too late for the engine to be saved.

You should keep an eye on it and monitor the level daily. Clean up the engine bay and see if you can find any leaks.

well you see when that light comes on it pretty much is an indicator that you are extremely low on engine oil. if the is not enough oil the pressure cant build up in the engine, pretty much same theory with brakes not enough fluid = loss of pressure= loss in pedal feel and loss of brake performance same thing with oil. now put some lucas in that damn thing with some royal purple cross ur fingers kiss ur beads and hope for the best. also do you change that little aluminum washer on your oil pan bolt when you change the oil? some times they leak just a drop or 2 every hour after a month of that you can easily loose 2 quarts and give you the exact symptoms you have now. also keep an eye on the temp the less oil the hotter the car runs. engines are cooled and lubricated by the oil. and cooled by the antifreeze/coolant. just a few good bits of info. gl .

Hmm, I'm too lazy to do my own oil changes. I assume places like Jiffy Lube etc, change that little aluminum washer thing.

Anyway, I'll check and see if I can find any leaks.

Could a cylinder misfire be the cause of anything like this? I do believe that my 4th cylinder is having some issues.

wait what???

watch out for places like jiffy lube there was a big big scandal with them a while back. but it might be fixed now. want to know what im talkin about just hop on youtube and type in jiffylube.

how many miles are on the engine chances are its just burning it
i would install a aftermarket oil pressure gauge..well worth the money imo

The engine only has 79k miles on it. Should it be burning already? I have an aftermarket Skunk2 exhaust system installed, along with Megan headers, but that shouldn't matter should it?

79k miles no it really shouldnt be burning a huge amount of oil.. What trim model integra is it? RS,GS,GSR,LS?

You'll need to try to do a compression test/leak down test to determine the condition of the engine.

no jiffy lube does not change the washer because they whould have to have a warehouse full of washers for every vehicle on the road. the washer ONLY come with the oem honda oil filter when purchased from the dealer. too lazy to change your own oil, hmm thats how you know the condition of your engine. it takes 15 minutes 1 bolt one filter. its easier than changing a tire. but yea do a leak down test and compression test also pull the oil pan and look at your bottom end. check it out NOW or you may be walking tomorrow, and with such a young engine you should NOT be having these sort of issues.
