Rust Repair NEED HELP
Ok so bought a 94 integra ls last year, $2500, pretty cheap, clean interior, engine runs good, smooth trans, overall ok for the price. Only problem was the rust on the car, I figured I have no money at the time and this is a good reliable car to buy. Rust was already showing through some parts of the paint at the time, didn't look too bad though, well I knew it was bad, not this bad but yea I knew I would have to fix it or drive around with it looking like crap. So now the time has come to fix the rust, its pretty bad now. Wheel well is rusted pretty bad almost all the way through on the inside and rocker panels rusted pretty bad. Previous owner put a lot of bondo on the car, if only he had done it right this car wouldn't be so bad! Some other parts rusted but I'm not too wory about right now. To save you all from more of my ranting I'll get to the point. I have no welder, so what I am thinking of doing is using panel bond to bond new sheet metal. Went to a couple of stores today, Autozone, home depot, fleet farm but can't find any panel bond. I've been looking at 3m's panel bond but don't really want to order form the net. Anyone know where I might find some in store? Also 3m requires you to buy this applicator gun to use the bonding material, is that necessary? The gun is $80, trying to save some money buy doing it myself, so i don't want to buy all these tools which is not necessary. Also my rocker panels are rusted, is it ok to cut out the bad metal and just leave it. It is safe to do that? If not I now I shouldn't bond it with metal but could I? I've been researching like crazy for the past week now, I NEED HELP!!!! I'm hoping to tackle part of it this weekend, so anyone with suggestions please suggest them.
i feel your pain. try nappa. the panel bond method works much better then welding because the heat from welding only weakens the metal and it will eventuly rot out. make sure you use duraglass insted of bondo. much stronger and it is fiberglass rosen based so it hardens like a sheet of glass and will not soak in any water, and to answer your last question, no you do not need the gun, you can push the panel bonder out of the tube with uoir finhers or the handel of a screwdriver, put the panel bonder on a piece of cardbord and use a paint brush to mix it togeather and just brush it on,hold it in place with some vise-grips and you will be golden
Hey thanks alot man. I guess honda-tech isn't as friendly and helpful as it used to be. So Napa should have what I'm looking for then. Cause I went to autozone and a guy there told me to try Napa but he said it's called liquid steel, and I've heard of liquid steel before and it's a little bit different from what I'm talking about. So I didn't bother going there after 2 hrs of searching different stores. Do you know if I need to weld new metal to the rocker panels? Or could I bond it on? Isn't the rocker panels part of the frame?
i wouud weld on the rockers. deff dont want to fill the holes w/ bondo. if i were you and nappa didint have the 3M brand panel bonder i would wait the week for it and order it online. never herd or liquid steel so

Well I haven't checked out Napa yet, going to in a little bit as soon as I get off work. Hopefully they have what I need. I know a lot of people say use vice grips to hold the metal together until it has fully cured but how are you suppose to place the vice grips? Not that much room to work with. I've also heard people say use pop rivets or something like that. I've never heard of them but anyone have any idea? I'm sure someone has done this before. HELP ME OUT!!! By the way thanks z395civic.
the vise-grips you want to use are long and look like clamps more than anything. you can go to sears and pick them up. just tell them what you need them for nad they will point you in the right direction

Still waiting for the por15 I ordered, been a week now and that was the first thing I ordered. Anyone ever deal with por15 depot before? Slowass shipping!
