anyone put hood locks on a carbon fiber hood
recently got another integra got a carbon fiber hood on it when i picked it up wanted to do alot of security things to it since my last one was stolen. wanted to put hoodlocks on it but i gotta cut the hood for fitment, any body have expience with that or know of the links that could help, been looking advice before i cut up a hood
i used some locks i picked up at checker a while back. they worked well and were easy to install if you have access to a welder.
back to my question though
carbon fiber any mishaps when cut out
or what would be the best way to make cut
hood is almost brand new so if i can keep it i think i will

Here's mine..I just drilled from the top and taped the area to help with splintering..these are the NRG locking pins.

Nope, I just made sure I used a sharp drill bit and slowly drilled the hole. I will say make sure you have the marks as accurate as possible because once you start cutting there is no turning back. As far as the flip up pins I have seen a few and typically they require much larger holes so if you get them you pretty much have to stick with them. This might hurt re-sale or if you want to change pin styles.

yo thats the shizzle bro
very nice on a type r front
how does the unlatch or unlocking work
seems like it would look better and maybe outlast rust wise and what not.
do you just pull the bolt out or just unlock it and its open?

Put the cf hood on
Drill a hole into the front support.
Put the pin in and secure it
Take a white-out pen thingys and coat the top of the pin so it marks where you have to drill into your hood. Dont worry that stuff comes right off. Apply a good coating so when you lay the hood on the pins it marks it. If not repeat this step.
Once your hood is marked take it off and lay it upside down preferrably on something that wont mess up your clear coat.
Take a drill whatever size you need and go to town on whereever was marked by whiteout.
From there on whatever type of latch or locking mechanism you have you can probably figure it out.
I wish I still have pics on how to do this.

gotta make the hole bigger but looks better than the circular locks in my opinion
still not sure how they lock and unlock cuz it looks like the key just opens the flap duno how the bolt holds and unholds

seriously dude... who the hell do u think thats gona stop?
I hate hood locks so much because people arent gona start trying to take ur car appart in a parking lot.... and even if they were those crappy *** locks wont hold up to a crowbar.
Im not trying to be a jerk just trying to save u money...
I got a CF from someone and it has hood latches.... i hate them so much because i think the hood would look so much better without them.... also once i saw how they worked i realised how much of a joke they are.... anyone who is stealing cars will probably go after ur car just because ur trying so hard but not really layering the proper defenses...

LordAphotic: There's also the problem of having the hood latch break off the carbon fiber hood and having it hit your hood. That's not a good day and it's the reason for having hood pins in the first place. Having hood locks is just a little more security from somebody jacking your air filter or your sparkplug wires when you go to the grocery store.

dang thats weak... yeah i can understand for track purposes defitnatly... i had a stock hood fly up once..... cause the latch was full of some sort of muddy oil and it didnt close all the way.... so i was driving fast and the hood flew up and smacked the windshield.. suprisingly the windshield didnt break but the stock hood was useless after that...

You can see with the latch open there is a rod that slides out of the hood pin. When you close the latch, it slides through and secures the hood, the latch 'clicks' into place.
To open the latch, you push down on the upper part with the lock and the latch pops up slightly so you can open it. Basically, when you lock the upper part, there is no way to open the latch because the upper part locks and doesn't let you push it down to release the latch.
A little on the expensive side? Yeah, but the design is great, little chance of corrosion, cleaner look than other hood pins, and the lock is a rugged, positive lock. Not like any of the other 'locking' hood pins that have a pretty poor lock design. I am very pleased with mine and definitely recommend them.
Also, when drilling into carbon, tape the area to be drilled and drill into the top. Then the bottom layer will splinter/fray instead of the cosmetic top.
