Going to the track... replace or resurface rotors?
I have some rotors that are in pretty good shape, and I'm going to the buttonwillow event this sunday. I'm replacing my pads(another set of stock), should I replace them or is it fine if I just resurface them?

have they been resurfaced before? I change mine everytime i do my pads. It only costs me a couple dollars more.

rotors haven't been touched before. there is no visible damage, and no pulsating. can I just add a new set of stock pads and not resurface them? rotors are like 100/piece.. not exactly the same price as resurfacing or ignoring...

You should be fine, no need to turn them.
Then again, running a track day with stock pads is probably a bad idea.

always turn your rotors when changing pads.....
thats like not resurfacing your flywheel....

You really should turn them for best performance. The could be glazed over.
No point in scraping the old ones you have if they are still within spec. You could buy new ones for the track and then have the old ones turned at a later date for a spare set

i get my rotors for less then $30 a piece, and resurfacing them is like $20 a piece, so i see no point in resurfacing mine when i can just get new

i beg to differ, if you can't afford to replace them at least resurface them.
s2000 stock pad are not bad at all, no it will not fade like a stock accord pad

If your replacing them with the same pads, why would you need to turn them? I've done this multiple times and it hasn't been an issue.
And even though the s2000 has bigger brakes, it has the same compound as that accord. I don't see any reason why honda would spend the extra money on high temp pads for a street car...

yes there is a reason to turn your rotors without changing your pads, on some cars with good brakes if hot braking occurs without proper cooling you will get uneven wear on the rotor and will cause "bumpy" braking, this occurs on EVO's i have personal experience with this.

whatever the reason, whether it be compound or size, the s2k's brakes can handle a few fast laps.. thats what it was made for. i have lots of friends who have taken their car and tracked it stock, but its true that the brakes are the car's limiting factor.

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
Your stock pads will puss out after a few real hard laps. Then they will warp your rotors. The car will shake like something is going to fall off. Such was the case with my car after a few 130mph to 60mph stops at road america.
After the brakes cooled, it would drive fine. If I got them hot, the WHOLE car would shake like it was about to fall apart. My friend has the same experience.
Do yourself a favor and get some race pads. I have never resurfaced or replaced my rotors. I have race pads for track days. I have gotten the brakes hot enough to melt my hubcentric ring but they NEVER pulse or fade. I use EBC yellow track pads ($125ish). Love em. Still going strong after 4 track days.
Replace your brake fluid with something that boils a little hotter.
I can literally pick up peices of my rotor from inside my wheel with my fingertip after a a track day. They have the surface of an old school record. So it's like machining them every time I go to the track with race pads
. I will replace them after this season since they're starting to get a bit thin after a dozen or so track beatdowns.
Buy some track pads and some good fluid. Then fuggedaboudit and drive the hell out of the car.
