I just purchased a 98 civic that supposedly needs a head gasket. I drove it home 20 miles no problem. Temp was good it just stummbled a little bit randomly. I did a compression test and i had between 155-160 on all cylinders. What else can I check to diagnose it. They took the car to a shop because it overheated and it used some antifreeze and it was said to be head gasket. Thanks for your help

 

you could pressure test the coolant system.. you could do a leak down test on the cylinders..

does it throw any codes? like a misfire or o2 sensor code..

 

There was a CEL. Misfire cylinder 1. I changed the wires and it went away. I also found a hose leaking so it might not be a gasket. I drove it 100 miles tonight no problems. I will see what tomorrow brings

 

Not using any antifreeze that I can notice. But I did see a few bubbles in the resivoir. That means head gasket right?
