Default Swapped transmission internals, Ls->gsr. gears are binding.

yesterday I was at the drag strip and broke a tooth of my LS dif.
I was in a bind and 70+ miles away from home, so I had bought a gsr trans with a bad bellhousing.
I began swapping all the internals over from the gsr hydro trans to the LS hydro case and noticed the bearings on the gsr dif were different so I swapped the races in as well.

I got the rest of the trans together. snap ring in place and trans all back together it spun freely and shifted like normal.

after getting it in the car and starting it, it was making a loud chugging noise like a rod knock.
it does it in neutral/and speeds up as trans speed increases.
the trans also doesnt want to go into gears very easily, at all. reverse takes a good ten trys before it engages hard.
Im just wondering if there was anything I needed to swap over from the GSR case that I might not have that could cause this problem.
Id appreciate the help and if anyone has any experience with trans swaps of this nature or anything similar please post.
thanks.

hard to tell but,

If the GSR tranny was in perfect running condition, no noise.
And then you swaped the internals over to the LS casing. Asumming you did everything "right" when you put everything back together.

When the original LS diff. blew, it might have caused a chain reaction and cracked one of the two bearings on the engine side of the housing. If this is the case then, as the mainshaft and countershaft spins the bearings(loose) might be making the noise.

that's jux a possibiltiy, i have had this happened to me.
but in any case drop that tranny and reopen it and fix whateva is the problem.

good luck

trans is out, and its back to 100% ls internals.
spins freely just need to throw it back in there 2marro.
I couldnt single out one particular problem, but there was a fair amount of metal in the trans when I drained it.

one major problem had to do with me installing the gsr bearing races into the tranny w/o removing the factory sealed bearing shims...
the dif was over preloaded and im guessing the pinion was just too tight against the FD.
as for the knocking Im not sure what could cause that.
i figure itd be a whine or grinding...
