Last night I went to start my car, and it clicked a couple times, then i tried it again and it started, luckily. When I came home, I turned the engine off, and tried to start it, but no luck, only a click each time i tried to turn it on. I figured it would be the battery, since I have a sub woofer in the back, so I took my battery out and swapped it out with the warranty. After I installed the battery, I still just hear a click each time i try to turn the key. So i'm guessing it's a bad starter? If it is, how hard is it to change it, and how much does it normally cost for a used starter? Also if it could be something else, or some way to remedy the problem please let me know, thanks in advance.

 

Hey there. I had the same problem with my dad's car starter clicking too. So yea, that is the starter problem.

You will need to replace it. Changing it isn't too hard. Especially with the 6th gen's engine bay space. (I'm unsure if you have a 4cyl with auto) You might need to remove the intake tube and that's all. Remove the 2 big bolts, and you're done!

Cost I'm guessing it's around ~$150-200. I got my starter from Autozone.

Take it out and test the starter at Kragen or Autozone to make sure it's the starter's fault. Bring it to at least 2 places to make sure...

 

yea I have the 4 cyl 2.3, so just take off the intake and battery, and I will have clear access? That doesn't sound too bad....but would you recommend a new starter or could I do with a used one from a junkyard, since that will probably be alot cheaper?

 

took me a little while to do, but I did it. Had to take out the battery and the intake and once I unscrewed it, it wouldn't squeeze out till I took off one of the plastic clips that holds the radiator hose. But those bolt's are a pain to break, that took me the longest. overall, not bad for an hr worth of work and a $25 used good condition starter from a junkyard....

 

Congrats on your swap. Yea that radiator hose gave me the same problem too... Forgot to mention that. Didn't know it was the same in the 6th gen's Spacious engine bay. But hey $25 for job that took you 1 hr. Why not! =P
