ok so i replaced my starter a few days ago and a bad thing happened, i forgot to disconnect the negative cable and when i let the ratchet rest it sent ground through the power wire on the starter and all my chassis ground contacts started to smoke and burn, my car has been starting fine and all of a sudden today im idling at a stop light and the car shuts off and wont start again, when i turn the key all accesories work but alls i get is a fast repeated clicking noise ffrom the starter. i notice a place in my ground that goes to the fuse box now has a place in it where the wire melted so... maybe i hit a bump and it contacted the chassis and shorted out? i know its electrical but i dont know where to start, any help would be greatly appreciated. oh yea battery is good and starter brand new. and yes i know i did somehting stupid when i grounded the power wire it was a mistake.
I'm guessing you smoked a few wires. When you try to start the engine, are any of the wires smoking?

well i found out what the problem was
the wire that goes into the starter wasnt connected good
not the power wire the one kinda set up like a plug, only had it hooked onto one of the prongs inside the plug instead of both, must have came loose, just thought it was weird that it caused my car to shut off while idling?
