Default HELP...want more power from my gsr!!

Hows it going... im looking to get a lil more power out of my 99 gsr motor this winter since i plan on pulling the motor and doing a few misc gaskets and stuff. I picked up a set of jdm itr pistons for next to nothing so i can put those in. What else could i do to compliment those? i appreciate any help...

Not really to add power, but for added security, you should install ARP rod bolts.

Some mild head work would help you gain some power. The usual ITR cams and cam gears to complete the set perhaps.

I was gonna do an intake manifold and bigger tb, and do itr cams if i can find some cheaper ones... but how much of a difference would i see between b16 cams and itr cams? Cuz i have a set of b16 cams already. I was also planning on just using an apexi neo to adjust fuel trim... i know its not the best but it is cheaper than converting to obd 1 buying an ecu then getting hondata or something... Or would that be a waste of time with the stuff i have?

Switching to B16 cams are not going to be beneficial to you. If you buy an IM(or for that matter serious about making more power), tuning will be key. JG/Edelbrock Pro Flow header/DC 4-1/R/Toda/SMSP header with a 2.5 exhaust. If you want to add cams, you have a TON of options but no "best." Search around here on the board and you will see allot of camshaft discussions.

what you should do is just build yourself a poorman's type r in this case. gsr motor with itr internals. upgrade your intake manifold to whichever u prefer and get an itr tb. so basically itr pistons camshafts itr valvesprings and retainers. if you keep searching on here you could find a set of 00-01 itr cams or ctr cams.which are basically the same. and look for a set of valvesprings and retainers and you'll be set to go since u already have the pistons

i was also wondering about tuning... the car is 1 99 so i need to pass emissions once a year. is there any way to stay with an obd2 computer or is there a good piggy back that i can use? or is going to a hondata on obd1 about the best way to go?

you could stay obd2 with all type r internals in your gsr motor...basically its a type r so you will need to run on a type r ignition map...so if you want just buy an obd2 type r ecu and it should be plug and play...with non aftermarket products your car should run fine without a tune...but getting a tune is the key...which you will most likely need a wideband for....

this is all good info... im still not clear on one thing... i read that i cant use an aftermarket intake with good results because aftermarket ims dont support egr. But i didnt think the gsrs had an egr... if it doesn't that would make everything easy, i would go with itr internals a skunk2 intake mani a hytech tri y replica header and a tuned obd 1 ecu and figure out inspections later... how does that sound for just a mild daily driver?

Are you talking DEQ or what?

As far as the IM deal, a stock gsr motor uses "butterflies" in the stock IM, your ecu is made to use those. When you bolt on a aftermarket IM, you eliminate the butterflies...in turn causing you to lose power unless you use engine management and tune that portion out of it. Hence the reason I said:

either way if you want to add modifications then you'll need a different ecu besides ur stock gsr ecu. Stock gsr ecu's are only good for direct bolts on such as headers intake and exhaust. Anything internal for new manifold i suggest you get at least a p28 and take it to a shop to get you a base map besides the gsr map so your car wont run and idle like shyt.
