Default Civicflow's 90 Civic Hatch Project

Picked up another hatch after I sold a DA I had for a short time. I realized I wanted a hatch again. Its a 1990 civic hatch. Barely any rust. It has a craptacular Flat Black spraycan paint job(thats how I got it). Polyurethane Master Bushing Kit installed.

Sorry for the crappy pics as the hatch is in garage and can't be moved yet.

My plan is to do a cheap NA d15 setup. I have traded most of my previous B series stuff for everything I have now.
Setup will be:
-D15b2 w/d16Y7 non-vtec head
-y7 head has intake side ported, delta 272 cam, aem cam gear
-'91 SI cable trans
-Front DA integra knuckles/brakes(Brembo Blanks,Rebuild Calipers,Hawk HP pads)
-OMNIPower EF Adjustable Full Coil-overs
-z6 intake mani
-DC sports catback exhaust

As you can see it needs a windshield and engine bay painted flat black for now to match exterior. Hopefully get a paint job in the spring.

It should handle decent and pull good for a d.

I have some Mint *** Si seats that will be going. It has a Si passenger seat and a blue knock-off racing seat in it now. I will probally use the racing seat for Autocrossing/Track time as it has some big bolsters to hold me in.

More to come as I install parts and get some better pics!

Today I finished up installation of:
-Front DA knuckles w/rebuilt DA Nissin calipers,Brembo Blanks, and Hawk HP pads
-OmniPower Full Front Coilovers(I will be installing the rears in the future)
-Stock Ef front crossmember(civic came with a B swap and the front mount was gone so I got another stock crossmember with the poly bushings in it).

Next will be to get a clutch, timing belt, and get the motor/trans in the car.
Then get ARP head studs and a Y8 head gasket......

Well boy oh boy do I see some familiar items there Lets see what parts were either on my CRX or my old Hatch, The D15 was the original motor in my hatch, the Z6 IM was on my CRX, The Si trans also out of one of my CRX's, HF mani I bought for a turbo setup that never was (although that might be the one you told me you picked up and not the one you got from me), DSM injectors and BOV were off of my Brother 90 Plymouth Laser, Front DA knuckles were off my hatch (and you forgot to mention the extended wheel studs ), Omni coilovers were also off my hatch (I know im going to miss those!!), Intercooler I bought from Bob way back when and never used....Sheesh my whole driveline and suspension is in there Oh yeah thats right the front OEM crossmember with the poly bushings were from my hatch as well

All I can say is you BETTER atleast give me a ride in the thing once its done!!

Will do! I don't even know if I am going to have it running before winter. Just to get the 1.5 running NA I need:
-Timing belt kit
-ARP head studs
-Y8 head gasket
-maybe new oil pump/water pump
-D series exhaust mani(I have the upper half so even just the bottom runners I need to get)
-New windshield to drive it!

I barely have any parts left to trade or sell for the parts I need and I am trying not to spend any money right now. We will see.....

Yeah I hear ya im not sure what im doing now that damn B20 is tempting but I need money and would rather boost the Z6 than do yet another motor swap! Hell I wouldnt even mind finding a clean shell as well!! If I could find a clean shell I would probably put the B20 in my CRX and sell it like that but who knows?? Theres a K prepped CRX shell out in Cali that would be cool sell all my crap and go K-series?? Too many options not deep enough pockets!!

The deal I had for a Ford Probe IHI turbo didn't go thru.

No new pics either.......

I need to install new outer tie rods then car will be rollable.
Then I can install the rear OMNI Coilovers and rear drums.

This thread sucks so far, lol.

Well, not sure if I am going to do a turbo D since money is tight. I just want to get it running then worry about turbo later.

I might try and rebuild a d16a6 block I have in the spring. I have never rebuilt a motor so it will be an experience. Just not sure yet if I am gonna go turbo or NA. Either way it is going to be on the cheap/used parts.

The hatch came with a good condition SI passenger seat and a Ebay racing seat for the drivers side. It has some good bolsters so I will keep it for any autocross/track days if I ever get around to attending one. I have a pair of mint SI seats that will be going in and I need to finish the dash install.

A pic of the awesome blue Top Speed racing seat!

More work and progress tommorrow hopefully.

I failed today! I went to finish up putting the dash together and noticed a wire harness is pinched between the dash and metal bracing. I didn't notice when I put the dash back in. So the dash has to come back out. But I don't have enough room in the garage to pull the dash. I still need outer tie rods to be able to push it out then I can pull the dash.

Nothing else I can do till I get some tie rods....

Yeah, finally an update!

Installed the outer tie rods so car is rollable! Pushed it outta the garage and turned it around and pushed it back in so now I can install the rear coilovers and rebuilt rear trailing arms/drums.

While the old trailing arms are off I hope to get some cash so I can get a walbro fuel pump and install that as well!

Not much done but now I can proceed with installing the parts I have.

And I have a couple full length pics. Looks crappy with the flat black paint but nothing a paint job can't fix.

Has a DC sports catback exhaust

Top Speed racing seat! I have some mint SI seats that will be installed.

yeah, I havn't put my si seats in yet. I figure I need to take the dash back out so I just left the blue seat in so I don't get the si seats dirty.

Not much of an update. Jacked up the rear end and took the rear bumper off.
Getting it ready to install the omni rear coilovers and rebuilt rear drums w/stainless lines. Also hopefully get a walbro 255 and install that as well.

The d15b2 block is on the engine stand. I still need to get a head gasket so I can get that ready to run until I get the d16a6 rebuilt. Still need to get a clutch, but have other things to get first.

Slloowwllllyyyyy coming along

getting cold and no money= not as much as I would like to get done.

Took off the drivers side rear trailing arm and shocks/springs. Stubborn bolts made the job harder than it should have been but then again they are 18+ years old.

I installed the omni coilover but not the replacement rear trailing arm I have. Ran outta time but I am going to wait on installing that and see if i can pick up a walbro fuel pump. Looks like it would be easier to drop the tank and disconnect the fuel lines with the driverside trailing arm off anyways.

Next will be the passenger side trailing arm removal/replacement/omni install. Not looking forward to that since today was probally the last decent day of the year...it will be getting cold. 8-O

Back from the dead!

Just ordered a y7 non-vtec head w/intake side ported, delta 272 cam, and aem cam gear.

I took some pics of the combustion chamber from the my spare y7 head versus spare a6 head.

A6-

Y7 w/ its bigger intake valves-

I took some pics of the combustion chamber from the y7 versus a6.

I wrapped my aluminum intake with header wrap. My logic is to keep out the engine bay heat but then maybe am I trapping it in?

Anyone have any thoughts? I still have the same intake but this picture is from my last ef hatch.
