Default Lots of valvetrain noise when running

It is a D16Y8 that has been rebuilt and wondering why it makes loud ticking noises?
If it matters I have a competition cam, heavy duty spring and titanium retainers.

I have checked the valve clearances COLD and have the following measurements
IN = 0.009 and EX = 0.011. These seem to be within specs of the Honda manual or should i readjust them COLD to IN = 0.007 and EX = 0.009?

anyone know?

your fine. thats just the infamous honda tick... noisy valvetrain is honda valvetrain.

also new cars have noisy valvetrain also. NOW thi tik should def not be confusd with

the tick of death. but thats more of a metal to metal tick aand is usuallt slower than

valvetrain tick.

you can adjust them a little tighter. IN- .007 EX- .008
normally with a bigger cam you get more noise from the valvetrain.

No. It'll eat your rocker arms.

it is better to have them a little more loose then tight even though it is noise. If they are to tight they will be held open.

why is that?

the only way the valves will be held open would be with no clearance at all. if the OP doesn't feel safe with those specs, then he should go with the cam's manufacturer's specs.

it is better to have them on the looser side of the valve adjustment becues all you get is noise on the exhaust valves tend to tighten up. When they tighten up and eliminate the gap your valves get held open and you burn then up and also you lose alot of power becues compression is blowing by your vavle.

why would they tighten up? metal expands as it's heated. causing the clearance to open a bit more when the engine is warm. and over time and mileage the clearance loosen's up a bit. what your saying isn't making a whole lot of sense.

I could not tell you why they tighten up but they do that is why you are suppose to get crv vavle lashed checked every 30k becues they will tighten up quicker becues the way the head is desinged. other honda motors do to but just not as quick.

so you are saying to adjust them to the higher limits?

the metal expands and closes the gap. he is right when he says they will tighten up. the valves will be held open and not transfer heat causing it to burn

That's not quite right. It's .007-.009 Intake and 0.009-.011 Exhaust. So the perfect middle ground is 0.008" IN and 0.010" EX.

The sewing machine tick is normal for hondas and you also have stiffer valve springs so it will be even louder tick than stock. As long as it sounds like a sewing machine and not a metal spoon rapping off the side of the block, you should be just fine.

Now that accurate info is in this thread, we can let this thread go back to bed as it is from 2008 my necro bumping friend above me.
