I know there are at least a few of you here that will appreciate this. Here's the story. My roommate (film guy) and I (photo guy) made a music video for a contest being held by Barsuk Records for the band Nada Surf (yes, remember that "Popular" song). Anyway, they are having the contest on YouTube and we decided to make a video to submit. We used my Canon 20D with a few different lenses. Please feel free to check out the finished product at

YouTube's version does not even begin to do the movie justice, so check out a higher res version at http://autumnatic.org/Nada%20S...r.mov
Enjoy!
DISCLAIMER: There isnt really any R content, but my roommate's beat-*** 4 door LS is featured in the video

I thought that was very entertaining. At the end I was waiting for the car to run into or refind the lit up ballons again in the street, as the last shot.

thanks sirs. yes, we definitely think we have a good shot at winning this competition. it would be a great way for my roommate to get his foot in the door and launch his film career. i'll keep you guys posted as to the results of the contest. hopefully, i'll know something by mid-october!
Pretty cool, but I have a question. If all you were doing was timelapse/stop motion stuff then why didn't you just use an HVX or something? It would of made your lives much easier. I mean for starters you don't even need all that extra resolution and it just went to youtube.
It came out great regardless, I like the panning beach shot.

actually we do need the extra resolution...if we win it will need to be delivered in broadcast quality.
and as for an HVX...i already had a 20D, so i dont see any reason to buy/rent myself a $4000 video camera. personally, i think it says a lot more for the video all being done with an SLR.

An HVX will shoot far beyond the broadcast resolution of HD, hell it'll even shoot 1080 which only Blu-Ray gives right now. I agree that it says more doing it all with a SLR but the vast amount of extra work doesn't seem worth it, only video nerds could really appreciate the extra bit of work. Best of luck on the contest though, I didn't watch any of the others but it's safe to say you have a strong chance already.
