Default Help me decided... Ducati 750 Supersport???

Alright, found a local 1999 Ducati 750 Supersport. it has 5k miles, k&n filter, and Ferracci pipes. He's asking $6800 for it, but is probably able to be talked down. Any input on the record of these bikes? Ive only read about the 748's, never the 750 SS.

Here's the link:

Thanks!

Im looking for clean cut riding not so much sheer power. I love the way Ducatis look and the insurance rates are considerably lower. Their sound is second to none, especially with pipes. The initial cost is worth the ins savings to me. Also, Jap bikes are great, but ive always had a soft spot for Ducs. I just love them.

I originally wanted a 748S but this one popped up. Its nice too. Im gunna take a look at it soon and hopefully get to ride it as ive never actually ridden a duc.

Thanks,

-Nick-

How long have you been riding? that's a great first bike but if you're experienced they're just plain slow.

Ive been ridding for a year. I rode a 22hp 1982 Honda FT500 ASCOT that entire year. The "most" bike ive ever ridden was a 2000 VFR and a 2001 SV650S (which i was VERY happy with. If the 750 SSport is equal to a SV, id be happy). Im looking for a nice next step and i love Ducs so im trying to stay with that company. Im NOT, i repeat NOT looking for a 180mph 160hp beast of a machine. Simply clean riding and enough power to keep things going.

Thanks,

-Nick-

In response to your PM, the SS 750 has a full swing arm, not single. And did you know it only has 64 Hp? its gonna be slower than the SV650S, they make a full fairing kit for the SV that is totally bad ***.....ducati's are sweet, but not as practical for an everyday bike.

see, the thing i have to deal with is the fact that im a 19 year old male... 2 strikes against me. I have a perfect driving record (nothing in the past 35 months), but insurance bites on jap bikes. On the ducs, it's actually reasonable. I originally wanted a 748S, so maybe i should stick to that rather than the 750 SS... thanks for all the input guys.

you are exactly right with the insurance.....im 19 too. Ducatis are sweet man, but you gotta again look at what you want, if you want speed and performance, go with something else, also, parts and service for them are expensive. Chances are something will go wrong with a ducati long before a suzuki or any other jap. Ducati's are exotic though....hrm..your call man. Performance or exotic.....

I dont need performance (to the extent of 100+ hp in a 370lbs bike). I love the style of the Ducs and the upkeep price is just right for me. So what other Duc would you recommend in place of the 750 SS? Should i save for a used 748S?

Thanks!

900 monster or SS (if it must be a duck) would be a lot better than the 750 and probably not that much more $.

I def want a full faring Duc. I was looking a 900 SS', but i havent price quoted the insurance rate on them. They have a 80hp i believe which is a bit more respectable than 64 on the 750SS... Still, if i could get the 750ss for like $6k, be more than a grand more for a 900SS and more insurance cost no doubt. If i didnt get tired of my 22hp 1982 Honda FT 500 ASCOT, then im sure the 750SS will keep me happy for a good while... mebbe not....

The 750SS in question has a few mods too.. im sure it wont add that much but better than nothing.

Insurance prices (thru progressive although i have access to USAA).

750SS min coverage: $505 a year

900SS min coverage: $556 a year

2001 SV650S min coverage: $293 a year

now thats with nothing but liablility.. no collision, no comprehensive... the bare bones. Im not too concerned with that though.... so tough... i think im gunna go ride the local 750SS before i make the decision. If it isnt enough bike for me, ill go check the 900SS out.

went to a local duc dealer and decided that the 748 is the way i wanna go. Ducati has a deal going right now for free mainenence for 2 yearswith a 3 year manf. warranty. so much for the frequent valve adjustment problem 10, 700 out the door 2 miles.
