Default alarm siren

so when i bought my teg it had a viper 350hv already installed. ever since, everytime it would rain a lot water would seep into the siren and eventually sit inside the cone, causing the alarm to sound like a dying bird or something awful. recently the water log was so bad it wasnt loud at all and wasnt going away. i read within the archives somewhere that you could drill a tiny hole in the cone and that would prevent water log. so, i did that, and sure enough water came out. i played with the siren and sure enough it started getting back to normal, it sounded really good, until today, it doesnt work at all? did i kill my siren? i was also tampering with the remote, setting the alarm into and out of valet mode, im wondering if i turned on a silent mode or something? i cant find in the manual anything that works. any suggestions? new siren?
thanks

If water is getting into the siren and it is pooling in the cone the siren is not installed properly.

It is very likely the siren is "blown", but not impossible that you programed arming chirp "off".

Can you arm the alarm and trigger it into full alarming mode without the siren going off?

You can test the siren leads for power and ground to confirm you have alarm siren output.

You say you have this manual... http://www.directeddealers.com...5.pdf
How about the install guide...
http://www.directeddealers.com...5.pdf

As you can see, siren output is the brown lead, [H1/10] it supplies the siren, [red lead] with 12V+, for arming chirps, warn-away chirps and full alarming multi-tone siren, you can test the siren red lead or the brown wire on the alarm brains main plug with a 12V test light or a multimeter, if you get 12V+ on the sirens red lead, replace the siren.

In fact, at this point I would replace the siren anyway, it has, at the very least, sustained some damage, mount it properly, facing down, at a slight angle, if water splashing up to the siren is even a remote possibility, [where you are now remounting it] drill a small, [1/8"] hole in the end of the inner cone, at what would be it's lowest point when the siren is mounted.
The siren can also be mounted horizontally, but never facing up, even a little.

Do yourself a favor, pull one of your front wheels off then pull the plastic fender liner out and check out the acreage up "inside" the fender to mount a siren, you can drill a hole, [and install a grommet] directly into the under dash area, or use the now relocated hood release cables hole into the car to run the siren leads, mount the siren horizontally, facing forwards, nice dry, out of the way, [harder for crook to get at] place to install a siren, and fairly easy to make much louder. 94

yes and yes. havent looked at the installation manual, yet

like i said, i was tampering with the siren after i drilled and it was working fine (i was testing it by banging on the door frame) now im not getting anything. last night i checked the wiring, everything was okay. i dont see how i could have blown the siren, considering it was working after i drilled.

I would relocate the siren if it is still operable. If not, buy a new one. They are not that expensive.

@fcm's post:

Sorry to bump a month-old thread, but I've been curious for a while. I've pulled my fender completely off, and looked at the siren mounting point everyone speaks of. I drive a 1996 Civic, for record. While I was there, it seemed to me as if it'd be easy enough to reach in and grab it. Is this only because my car was on jack stands at the time? (Steering rack swap.)

I imagine on a lowered vehicle it'd be substantially more difficult, of course. But with stock ride height, is it near impossible anyway? My main concern is that the siren leads are usually mounted in the exact place the relocated hood cable was. If a crook is grabbing at the hood cable, surely siren leads in the exact same place is no more difficult.

The differance is the hood release cable runs from the hole in the "A" piller/kick panel along the fender rail to the front of the car, the siren leads would not, they would go from siren into the hole, no wire to grab at all. 94

So what you're saying is you would route the siren cable sort of under hood and then into the fender area? Reason I'm curious is suspendedHatch's writeups:

No I would not route it out from under the hood, go directly from the pass compartment, [under dash] into the fender area through the kick panel/lower "A" pillar. 94
