JDM D15b spits at low Rpm's and EXTREMELY touchy gas pedal
I have an issue with my JDM D15b, perhaps you can help me out.
I bought the engine straight from JDM and the computer as well.
When my mechanic installed it, it wouldn't start.
So he replaced the spark plugs but that didnt work.
So he set the firing order to a 96 D15 and then it started.
But what i was apparently sold was a 92-95 D15b with a matching computer.
Problem is now my car spits at low rpms and has to be rev'd for a while in idle or it dies.
At mid to High rpm's it handles fine.
But i can't cruise or even maintain 20mph in 2nd because the rpms are so low it spits
Also the pedal is EXTREMELY touchy.
One tap and it wants to jump and take off.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your time.

The one JDM gave me.
They said it was for the engine.
Not sure but if the computer is the ECU then its whatever they gave me.
What's CELs?

Reading in the other thread you posted in. You will need to have your map sensor connected. Is there no MAP sensor or on the throttlebody, or is there no wire to plug into the MAP sensor? What year is the car? What trim level? and is it an automatic or manual transmission?
It's there. Just no where to plug it. My car is a 93 civic Dx manufactured in Canada. Someone said something about possibly needing to add a couple wires when installing because it's not set up for V-tec. Map sensor wires maybe?
check to make sure tps and map arent mixed. than check if your fuel pressure is in spec mine did this too! also see what your throwing as far as codes(check engine light)...might need to clean IACV and adjust/clean your FITV screw make sure its all the way tight too.

'92 - '93 US DXs and LXs as well as Canadian market '92 - '93 CXs, DXs, LXs and EXs (this doesn't have anything to do with where the vehicle was manufactured just where it was intended to be sold) Basically every '92 - '93 civic that came from the factory with a D15B7 have a firewall mounted MAP sensor, its bolted to the fuel fiter holder on the firewall the the right of the battery. the harness for it goes straight to the ECU. unplug the harness from the firewall mounted MAP sensor and plug it into the the throttle body mounted map sensor.
Edit:
You will also need to add the vtec wiring as well if your mechanic has not already done so. Also if you using the JDM P08 ECU that goes with the engine you will need to convert from a 4 wire to a 1 wire oxygen sensor. If using a USDM P28 ECU from a '92 - '95 EX/Si you will not have to convert from a 4 wire oxygen sensor to a single wire. But you will need to add the purge solenoid to the back of the intake manifold, this can be recycled from the old D15B7 manifold.

I was wondering if it might be the low fuel pressure.
IT makes sense.
I barely give it gas and it acts like its spitting fuel.
But if i step on it then it hauls just fine.
How do i check for the fuel spec?
I just have a normal 93' Dx which was set for a D15Z

Did you take car of that MAP sensor issue yet? It will never run right without a MAP sensor. I highly doubt its low fuel pressure.
No but where going to try the Map sensor today.
The '93 civic for sure has that firewall sensor?
But tonight when we finish putting on the rear struts ill try that out.
Thats what we both thought the problem was in the first place.
Thanks for all ya'lls input.
My mechanic didn't think Forums were actually useful, till he saw all of this.

well forums are always useful...how else would ppl get info on cars if we all didn't live in the same area?
I plugged the map sensor in and it helped out a lot.
It still kinda bogs out a little at low rpms but not as bad as it did before.
He thinks I might just have to throw some fuel system cleaner in since that engine sat so long.
If not then it could need a stronger fuel pump.
The engine hasnt been through a tank of gas so that could also be an issue.
Good thing is that Map sensor made a significant difference.
Thanks a ton. I'll let ya'll know if the fuel pump is an issue to.
For future reference.
