Default Deciding between 16s and 17s

I can't decide between 16 inch and 17 inch wheels.

I would rather go with the 16s because they are generally lighter and cheaper.

The only thing keeping me from doing it is that there is a far wider selection of tires in the 17 inch size. If I stay with 15s then there is also a wide tire choice. Except I have 15s now, so I want to try a larger size.

What does everybody think?

Anybody know the weight of a Rota SubZero in the 17 x 7.5 size?

I think I read 20 pounds, except that is a huge increase over the 16 inch size so I doubt it is accurate. It is a far larger increase then I have noticed in other wheels when going from a 16x7 to a 17x7.5 wheel. So does anybody know?

Most on this web site will say 15. the smaller rims with bigger tires are in style.
Meats on 15s look sexy. check my bio, 15s with meat, yumm

If it were up to to me, I'd be stuck between 15 and 16. 16 looks too big, and 15 looks too small. I'm in one of those dilemmas. 17 for me, purely based on looks, I wouldn't do it. I think they look *** on older Honda's, and most everyone will agree. Not only that, but you stated 16 inch rims are cheaper.

But my final opinion is do what you want. It's your car. You'd be a moron if you bought every part for your car based on the opinions of other people. Before you know it, the minus 15 pounds from your rims won't matter cause you'll end up with 3 wings on top of each other.

Well I wanted to experience how responsive tires with 40 series sidewalls are for myself.

Some people say that the responsiveness is worth all the extra cost.

I wasn't really concerned that much with how it looks.

Anybody happen to know the weight of a Rota Slipstream in the 17x7.5 inch size?

I have read 20 pounds, except again that seems like to big of an increase over the weight of the 16x7 size.

I'm trying to keep the weight of the 17 inch wheel less than or equal to the stock wheels. I am trying to avoid buying forged wheels to keep the costs low. Yet if I have to spend the cash for a forged wheel, then I will.

IMO 17's look ridiculous on older civics. I've seen 15s and 16s that look good on EKs though.

heres my car just for reference .. the wheel wells are about the same size as the "ek" im running 17s with 205-40-17.. as far as responsiveness of 40 series tires im not entirely sure what you mean but my car is slower getting going and stopping now and the ride is harsh with being lowered ( which is a must with 17s) otherwise you look like you are driving an awd car. but from experience with 17s.. dont do it later on down the road it wont be worth it id go 15 or 16 and if you really need a 40 series tire just get a 16 with a 205-40-16. you can make the decision yourself but the large majority of the people on here would agree that they are just too big for the body of a civic

What type of wheels are on your car?

I like the way your car looks with the 17s on it.

It depends on what you plan to do with your car. Just a daily driver? Put whatever you wan in it. Plan on Autocrossing or track? I would stick with 15's if I had a choice.
The rim are lighter and the wheels are cheaper. The performance you gain by going to a thinner side wall may be offset of the added weight to each wheel.
The old saying "each lb of rotational weight is like adding 50lbs to your static weight."
I'm running 17's on my track car solely because I had to upgrade to a set of Stop-Tech's and I also wanted to run a 255 tire. (Yes, I am one of the very very few Honda's that actually need them). For my DD, I'd stick with 15's.
You also will not have to worry as much about fender clearance issues.

You are totally correct about the 15s being lighter and cheaper.

There are some forged 17x7s that weigh 15 or 16 pounds, so that is about the same or lighter than the stock wheels.

I really only wanted to experience the difference with the shorter sidewall.

I want to see if there is a big difference or if it is mostly hype.

The difference? It sucked! It's not more responsive at all. If there were ruts in the road, my car would go in and follow them like it was on rails. Small pot holes would make the car turn towards the direction the pot hole was in. Even the ride quality was crap. If there were small bumps and cracks in the road, I'd feel all of it in the cabin. 17s were the biggest waste of money I've ever spent on a mod. I was running Pirelli's P-Zero M+S 205/40 series tires on BBS RC rims. I switched to 16" Enkei RPF1s that weigh 13.7 lbs each with the same tire (but 16", obviously). The difference was night and day, no more following ruts in the road, no more feeling small bumps and cracks, and much improved steering. I wouldn't get 17s if you DD your car in an area with crappy roads.

17's would look way to big on an ek. If you want to go larger than 15's, just get 16's or fear being flamed.

I would also go with 15's or 16's but 17s aren't that bad depending on the rim/tire.

heres a friends car for reference, he had some 17" Racing hart C2's on there also, i must say it was pretty nice.

i have both 17's and 16's. I like the look of both but the 16s do feel better for hard driving.
205/40/17. if people want to flame me for running 17's be my guest. i dont give a fooock. im just breaking the normal everyday bs.

I could care less what type rims that he chooses or what size rims you have. All I was saying is that most people don't prefer the look of 17's. I could care less what he gets or you have. It is your own car and you should do what you want and like.
