So it looks like im buying a 04 S...
Like the title says, im picking up a 04 S from a buddy of mine. He desperately needs to get rid of it. Its formula red, soft top, and has 99k miles on it. Most of the miles are highway miles. It was in FL and Chesapeake for most of its life. It needs a new clutch. It has been on the original clutch and its about time to get it replaced. Interior is clean and exterior as well. It has an aftermarket exhaust, not sure about the brand. I just have a few questions.
First, what kind of clutch should I get? I know OEM will suffice and I dont plan on boosting it or anything like that. It will be my DD so I want something that will be good for city/highway driving. Also where is a good place to get this clutch? I mean good quality as well as being inexpensive...
Next, obviously winter is right around the corner and I plan on driving it in the snow. I was looking at the Dunlop Winter Sport M3s. Anyone have any reviews about this tire on the S? Ill also have a set of regular all-seasons all well. And for those of you who say its a bad idea to drive the S in the snow, ive had an AP1 and drove it in the snow and never had any issues.
Lastly, what kind of maintenance things should I do with this kind of mileage? The things I plan on doing are getting the oil changed, drain and fill tranny although Honda says to do it at 120k, replace the spark plugs with NGKs, and doing the diff fluid. Anything else im forgetting? The only question I had about changing the diff fluid is, I dont think it has ever been done so if i change it at 99k miles, will it cause any issues? I would think not but I dont know for sure...
Oh btw, for those of you who are wondering what I paid for it. I paid a little over 11k for it. It doesnt look like a 100k S for sure. Its very clean. Ill post up some pics when I get it cleaned up.
Thanks

lol, i would imagine by the age of 21 you should be able to buy it without any help...maybe things are different here, but at 21 you are considered a full adult here

it's okay. haha
to the OP...you sound like you're on the right track with your winter checklist. If i were you I would look into just getting a set of steel wheels for your winter tires. That way you don't have to worry about swapping the tires around

yeah i was thinking about getting some steel wheels but im not sure which ones to get due to the fact that the wheels are staggered on the car.

I read somewhere that the S2000s OEM clutch is known to easily disintegrate. Wasn't there a recall on this? Maybe its best to get aftermarket on this one.
Nothing wrong with the stock clutch on the S2000... ESPECIALLY on an AP2
However most people (including me) have seen great results from upgrading the pressure plate to a tougher unit

sssssssshhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttt im two weeks over 20 and i bought my s (by myself on my own) pay note and ins and rent and im the f*ckn cable man.....so whom ever posted that "21 using your parents money crap" can shove it dont be mad ur 30 and im in the same car probally cleaner......
So anyone have any input as to the things that I stated in the first post? I'm going with the OEM clutch. Like I said, its my DD and I dont plan on doing anything like boost. I might replace the flywheel at the same time since its been 100k miles or so and might have heatsoak but if it looks resurfaceable, i might just do that and save the 300 bucks.
OEM clutch is good... Or an OEM disk with aftermarket PP.
No clue on those tires. I never let my car see snow.
Sounds like you have the maintenance all wrapped up for 100K.
Having said all this, I'll give you 200$ more for the car then you paid

Anyone know a good place to buy the fluids w/o going to dealer?

How are you going to make this comparison paying almost 17 THOUSAND $ more for a car one year newer then his? Used car's FTW!

Oil= 10w30 your choice from Walmart (I like Amsoil but it's not sold at Walmart)
Trans Fluid= Redline MT-90 is great for warmer weather.
Diff Fluid= LE1605 from Ricks (You can also use any 75W-90 oil, synthetic HIGHLY recommended. M1 is very popular for the diff if you don't wanna wait for LE.
