Recently, I began to have a knocking sound coming from the rear of my 2006 Honda Coupe that I bought new. It has 35,XXX miles on it. I checked the spare and tools to be sure they were tightly stored. I emptied the trunk of the few items I had stored there. I climbed under the car to check for a loose tailpipe or muffler. I still have the knocking noise. It seems to occur mostly on small bumps and imperfect road sufaces, but not so much on big bumps. Any help is appreciated. I'd hate to have to bring it somewhere if it's not necessary. Thanks!

 

One simple check is to make sure your trunk stops are adjusted correctly, if they dont support the trunk the trunk may move over bumps

 

Thanks, but it doesn't appear to be the trunk stops. Can it be related to something with shocks, springs, or bushings, even though it is a 2006 with only 35,XXX miles? It definitely appears to coming from the driver side.

 

Fold down the rear seat back and check the bolts on the braces behind the seat. I've seen those loose a few times.
