under the CR's tonneau cover, what is there?
if you remove the tonneau cover on the CR, what is under there?
are the plastic pieces to cover where the soft top would be?
i plan to remove my soft top, but im afraid it'll look like crap with the big open holes....

I don't think there are covers because that is what the tonneau cover is for.
The hard top installs over the tonneau covers. There not meant to be removed, you cannot keep a soft top under one.

under a non-cr, there is that plastic tray back there. i would assume that there is the same in the cr

Yeah, the CR looks like that... And like I said, since the tonneau cover is not really designed to be removed I HIGHLY doubt there is any cover underneath there. Once you remove the sot top though, there is tons of room for a nice roll bar
