Default crx tranny question

I have a '91 crx with a d16z6 and my tranny is blown. i was thinking about getting an '88 SI tranny for it and was wondering is there and con's to this tranny as compared to 90-91 SI tranny. And if anything what would be the best tranny to put on my car? Any help is apreciated thanks.

EDIT: Also i was wondering if i could you a 95 EX coupe automatic engine harness because my harness is all hacked. or what would be the best harness to use?

-matt

i dont know alot about the differences in the trannys, all i know is that they have a different spline count. i personally would go with the SI trans due to the shorter gear ratio.

You have to change out the clutch if you use the 88 transmission, it is the only odd ball out of the 88-00 family when it comes to spline counts.

Putting in another harness that isn't even the same generation is more trouble than it's worth unless you are individually breaking every sensor off and almost rewiring the entire bay.

the 88 is a 21 spline count and the 89-91 is 20 splines count

88-89 use a smaller clutch kit and flywheel surface, so you need a 88 clutch kit and a 88-89 flywheel.

whats wrong with your trans? i have lots of gears and syncros, ect....

You do not need to use the 88 Clutch and the 89 flywheel, you can switch over to a 88-89 Accord LX-i clutch and that has the appropriate 21 splines and the larger diameter you had before.

clutch city online sells a kit specifically for this. mating an 88 tranny to a 90+ flywheel. i recommend that vendor.

you could also just put the 20 spline main shaft into the other 88 tranny, but that sounds beyond the OP's capability.
