Help me do my brakes
I need to do my brakes and this newbie needs some help.
2006 Accord EX (4 disc). 34K miles.
First, brakes are sqeeking, so I'll assume I'll need to replace the pads and resurface the rotor.
Before the How-To part, let's start with some questions.
- Can a newbie do brakes? Or should I leave it up to the pros? My experience are limited to exhaust bolt ons.
- It sounds like the wear indicators. Could there be something else more than pads and rotor?
- Do I always need to replace all 4 pads? Does the front generally wear more than the rear? Can I just to front now and rear later?
How to:
- Is there a wriite up link I can read to see if this is even for me?
TIA
More to follow.....

You can search the do it yourself "DIY" its not that hard at all just need the basic tools.
Yes the fronts wear out 95% of the time faster than the rear unless you race your car then your better off doing all 4
By the mileage your around that time for pads.

7th gen cars have been known to wear the rears faster than the fronts. I changed the rear pads on my 03 V6 at 47k miles, but didn't change the front pads because they had plenty of material left on them. It's not hard to do, but I would strongly suggest getting a repair manual if you've never done it before.
PS: Remember the rear caliper piston will not simply push back into the caliper, like the front does. You have to turn it while pushing it in.

tru dat, i was a total noob changing my brake pads, they were the rear ones, they ran out faster than front ones, odd to hear that but most 7th gen accords do that. pretty much you can do it without any manuals, its self explanatory and common sense. the hardest part was figuring out how to get the caliper piston back in. a c-clamp is not needed like older cars, and you simply just have to twist the piston clockwise like a screw. this took me hrs to figure out and once i realized how, i wanted to shoot myself. it's a pretty easy job, but i've never done the front pads. also, don't pump your brakes with the caliper off, or brake fluid will come out through the piston. also, for rear brake pads, you'll most likely need to release the parking brake so the caliper comes off the rotor, so be careful with this while your car is jacked up.
also, my rear brakes squeaked at about 36k miles, and you won't need to resurface your rotors for a simple brake pad job. unneccesary, especially with a still pretty new car. i recommend Hawk HPS.

Strange. But I guess it's common.
Rear pads were 90% worn. Front only 25%.
