I finally took my R to the dealership (Acura of Denville in NJ) for service. The service manager says that I don't know how to drive.
I guess that everyone on this board doesnt know how to drive then. I took her out for a spin to show him that there was a problem. I'm on Rt 10 east. rolling, 60 mph. So I show him that and I throw into 3rd and the grinding starts. We get back to the dealership and he says that I'm not suppose to be throwing it into 3rd while i'm rolling, (meaning 60 mph in neutral). He says that the grinding is natural and that I'm don;t know how to drive.
Does anybody ever had this problem or am I crazy.

Anybody recommend a different dealership

why do you go to neutral and then back to third at 60MPH?

ANd if you are close to NYC, since i dont know how far down you are, go to Acura of greenwich, they are great


I forget how close Newark is to Greenwich, 45 minutes maybe?

I throw mine from 5th to 3rd on the highway all the time.
If its not past 8,000rpm I dont the the issue.
I know some cars wont go into 1st while they're moving. I guess they must not have syncros in 1st or something.

Yep the manager is an ***. Take it somewhere else.

 

go to Precision Acura in Princeton, NJ...I had a problem w/ my 3rd gear right after I got the car and they took care of it no problem

They never cared that I had mods, etc...very nice people, understand AND appreciate the performance of the R and they should take care of you!

 

how may miles are on your R? could be your snycors...

I heard Ramsey Acura is also good. Try another dealer. You live in Newark and still have your R??

it will grind if you go to netural, when you try to rev match it...... i think...

i always go to 3rd, while clutch is pushed in i rev match...
but dealerships are gay..

 

mine wont go into 1st... while im moving.. are all itrs like that??!?!?!

 

U are telling me that u are doing 85mph, let say in 5 th gear and the try to throw it into 3rd gear without the clutch
(Heard it from a reliable source!) What the hell u gain from that? Of course u going to grind the synchros!

I'm going to speak for jond and say NO, what the hell are you thinking? lol. I believe he means he PUSHES the clutch in and then goes from 5th to 3rd, without going to 4th first, or revmatching...

Correct me if I am wrong jond.

All cars wont go into first while moving, prevents over revving of the engine...u can do it when ur goin about 5 MPH or less. thats it.

 

...he's an idiot... even if you were shifting in some funky way, he could have corrected you saying "try this"...

took a friend of mine's very wealthy German-car-driving father for a ride a while back in the R, quote as it was told to my friend by his father... "That crazy bastard tells me to hold on... he's goning to slow down... I thought sure, whatever... felt like I got punched in the chest by the seat belt... I held on then... when he got it down to about 40mph from God knows where(it was probably down to between 35 and 40)... he throughs it in first... I thought gears were going to go everywhere... it just went in and hauled ***... I couldn't believe a 4-banger could perform like that..."

Point is, if it is in the car's rev range, shes yet to complain about any gear at any speed... go somewhere else, and complain all the way up the ladder about your expirence... my local dealership sucks ***, and has had to change a few things due to "someone" rocking the boss's boat...

 

I an go into first at any speed under 36-37 mph...

paragon acura in Queens is good and they don't jerk you around at all.

 

when you say from neutral, what RPM is the motor spinning at? if 800rpm and you're going 60mph, then yes, it will grind.

 

I shift from neutral to every single gear all the time, except maybe first while rolling...never grinded..but always revmatched.
