Anyone know anything about car audio for a Miata?
The speakers in my Miata are blown.. I have a nice aftermarket deck with an iPod hookup. But thats about it. I'm looking for some type of inexpensive setup.
What exactly does an amp and sub do? Should I consider getting them along with replacing the speakers, or just forget about them and just replace the 2 blown speakers with some $80-$150 speakers? I don't care about people hearing my bass down the street or anything, I just want it to sound nice and crisp inside the car and being able to bump the bass up knowing the speakers won't blow.
I was thinking of getting these: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...26861

I know what car audio is, it's speakers and the such in a car.
Really replace the speakers first and then go for adding, adding a sub and amp be it 1/2/4 etc channel and some blown speakers you will be un happy.

An amp amplifies the signal (adds more power) and the subwoofers give you bass and lowend frequency. An amp and sub round out a nice system imo.

Yeah I do, and they're blown too. I was thinking of just taking them out once the new speakers are in.

Not really sure on how easy they are to remove them. But they don't really look like the speakers I posted above. And I think they've been in there since 92 lol.

I'm thinking of just cutting off the wires to the headrest speakers and just have the speakings in the door panels play. I rarely drive with the top down so its ok. Does anyone know if that'll mess with anything if I just cut the wires and not remove them fully?
How did ur current ones get blown and what yr Miata? I ask b/c my dad had a 1st gen MIata and the speakers went bad b/c rain was able to get to them and messed them up.

Can't you just use the radio to fade everything to the front speakers?

You should change them out anyway. Take the car to Car Toys and have them change them for you.

Just turning up the music way to loud for the speakers to handle. Its a 92 Miata.

I don't really care for them though. I'd rather just have them upgraded or just removed completely, since if I get them replaced with stock ones, they'll just get blown again.
And if I upgrade to good speakers and have them in the car along with crappy stock speakers in the headrests, I'll be hearing two different types of sound quality..

You should upgrade them. That is what I meant. Find out what size they are and I am sure you can get a good speaker to fit in there. Then you will have the best quality possible. REPLACE THEM!

Actually replacing/using the ones in the headrest will make it impossible to get good sound quality out of the system, they will overpower every other speaker in the car because they are so close to your ears. You would be better off using the money that you would replace the headrest speakers and put it towards upgrading the front set of speakers to a nice set of components. You should however replace or disconnect any blown speakers as they can damage your head unit.

Well 1st of all what genres of music do you prefer? If you like bass heavy muzak like rap/reggae you may want to consider a subwoofer. Your speaker selection is a little murky; do you even know what size you need? I personally prefer Boston Acoustics and Infinity above all else but that's just me. And finally, if you should foolishly choose to cut the wires leading to your headrest speakers, make sure you cap the live wire's ends with a wire-nut or electrical tape at the least, to prevent grounding or a short.

Ahh yeah I'm an idiot, I cut the wires, and yeah I did cap the live ends with electrical tape. But I should of just left them alone since I didn't know I had the "fade option" to fade the sound to the front or rear...
But its cool anyways the speakers in the headrests were completely blown and worthless, but I should of just left them alone and just faded the sound to the front.. It just bothers me that theres electrical signals or whatever going to the headrest speakers but the wires are cut.

In your case i would go with a 4 channel amo. and buy a nice componet set for up front and a small 10 inch or 8 inch sub. Use channel 1 and 2 for the front stage. And channel 3 and 4 bridge to push a sub. I use this set up in cars like yours like the toyota mr2 and cars that really don't have the space for a full system. And it will play so well.
Alright so I went to Best Buy yesterday, and I talked to one of the salesmen over there and recommended me this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...94507
Since I wasn't gonna go with a subwoofer or amp, just need some decent speakers, he though it was the best bang for my buck in my situation. I paid $20 bux to get them installed, which looking back, I honestly think I could of done myself. But $10 bux for each speaker.. whatever. But overall, I'm pretty content with what I bought. Honestly though they do sound a little like the stock speakers I had when they were not blown, just a little more clearer and stuff.
I'm just worried to turn the volume up with the "Loud On" option cause I keep thinking I might blow these speakers.

As mentioned, replace the front speakers and "amp" them.
Have a listen to a set of Eclipse SP6510...

Them and a 2x75W RMS into 4 ohm amp will sound very good in a small pass cabin like yours.
An adapter plate made from MDF will be better then any plastic one you can get,
unless it is a late model Miata and it has 6x8s in the doors, then all you need is the Eclipse SP5710, [a 6x8/5x7 combination speaker] the same 2x75W amp would work, a 2x100W RMS into 4 ohms would be better.

PS, leave the headrest speakers disabled.
