Default Racer's tape.

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good brand of "racer's" tape? Preferrably one that doesn't leave any adhesive residue after its removal.

Thanks in advance.

Gaffers tape. http://www.identi-tape.com holds really well, comes off with no residue even after being in the california sun for 3 days straight, easy to tear off in sections.

Painters tape from Home Depot. It's the greatest stuff known to man.

Thank you sir.

I had my eye on Gaffers tape in my Truechoice racing catalog, but wanted to get other inputs from racers before making a decision.

I used the painter's tape at Lowes and Home Depot. It doesn't leave goo behind. And it's blue to match the rest of my bling.

Default I'm cheap.

Might have to go the painter's tape route then. The cheaper the better* I always say.

Yea, me too...

regarding painter's tape... it's not supposed to stick well... that's why it's painter's tape.

Does it still leave a residue if you put an abundance of wax on the area first? That's what we did on my brother's S4 and it was fine...

Cover area to be taped with wax. Do not wipe off wax.

Install tape.

Clean excess wax from around tape.

Tape will come off without residue.

Buff off wax.

Da Dah!!

I've always been curious if painter's tape would actually serve the function of keeping glass from getting showered onto the track even in the case of a light impact.

I know I'm supposed to be using wax... I just haven't remembered to bring any.

My biggest problem hasn't been on the paint. - a little goo-gone gets cleans that up very easily, though I'm not sure I'd use it if I cared about the paint any.

The headlights cause me the most grief. It takes forever to get the residue off those. I'm not sure I want to reduce the grip there though, as it might defeat the purpose of taping them to start with.

When I used painter's tape it came right off. Nothing was left on my paint or headlights.

The crap sold at most tracks (like Driving Impressions @ Summit Point). The stuff is nasty and leaves way too much residue.

Blue painters tape is the shizzy, honestly. Don't waste your money on "racers" tape. I've used the painters tape many times on a black car at a very hot track day, two days in a row w/ no residue or ill effect.

What exactly is the purpose of racers tape? Is it to keep small rocks, etc. from smashing your headlight/turnsignal lenses during the race?

I believe the main purpose is too keep glass/plastic pieces off the racetrack when it shatters (headlights, tailights, etc.).

What is a good tape for autocross numbers? I don't think my region allows shoe polish, so I have to run to Home Depot tonight.

I suppose I could use some painter's tape on my rear window.
