Spray Guns.
Ok, so im pretty much new to this whole painting business. Only experiences that i have with paint is spray paint cans [tagging, graffiti, etc], and not through spray guns. Ive also tried rolling on paint. When i did my roof for my crx [red crx, roof painted black using rollers] the outcome came out ok, but not to my expections. I have never tried using a spray gun, and of course i wanna learn.
Ive been reading about them, and the paint and body section doesnt really cover any information about any spray guns. Im planning on getting myself a spray gun, but dont know of any good mid-priced guns. Around $80-$120 range. I know you also need the part where any liquid will be separated from the air, which i dont know what its called and other parts.
I dont know if im posting this on the right section and i wanna know some information about spray guns, i dont know if anyone got any experience using any of these:
Home Depot sells these ones i have my eye on:
HUSKY Gravity Feed Hvlp Spray Gun - $79.97
Model HDS79000AV

Buffalo Tools 2 pc. Gravity Fed Spray Gun Kit - $49.99
Model HVLPK2

Harbor Freight sells these:
$59.99
pepboys also sell a set of spray guns. i dont know if theyre any good.
so my question are any of these any good for painting cars?
or can anyone suggest a mid-priced gun?

Most of those cheaper guns are all the same, if your just doing a backyard spray job you should be fine using that Husky spray gun. Just make sure it's a top feed and that you clean your gun very well after your done. It might not spray show quality paint but if you keep it clean it will serve you well for years.
first off when buying a gun you need to think of things.
1.How many cfm's is it going to use
2.Price (your budget)
3.How often are you going to be using it
4.Desired result
I painted my car a few months ago with 3 harbor freight guns at 15 bux each sprayed my car awesome. Did a few jobs now in between, the basecoat gun started to **** on me, so i recently invested in an anest iwata. AWESOME gun, list price is 630, I got a deal because my friend works at keystone. But none the less i could of bought a sata or a devilbiss but they use a high cfm rating i was also looking at sharpe finex for like 120 but I just decided to dish out the cash because i have never ever ever heard antyhgin bad about this gun and it most importatnly fit my standards.
P.S: As I was buying this gun a man standing next to me who doesnt know me but i know him becuase he is a painted in one of the most reputable shops in my area looks at me and says ''Hey kid, remember, the gun dont make the painter, the painter makes the gun." haha.

I'm looking to paint my side skirts in just a few places, to get rid of some scratches, I didn't want to go all out I was thinking about using an airbrush and a little paint, sand it and then clear coat it, does this sound like a decent plan, or am I going to mess up the paint really bad?

if your a beginner, you can start with a cheap siphon feed gun for around $20.00. most gravity fed guns are a bit harder to work with especially with metallics. the hvlp guns utilize the paint better, because they dont require alot of air pressure.
Only word i gotta say , Sata NR3000 Digital II!
Best guns i worked with even iwata's and devilbiss gti
Your gonna do the best [freak]ing paint job ever , but it needs like 15cfm so better have a compressor that can deliver it.
Oh did I said 575.00$ retail price on spraygunworld.com
Have a nice painting time with this one guys !

I'm looking for a gun too.
actually I'm looking for a compressor and a gun and everything to get setup to start painting my prelude too.
I was trying to stick at 500 altogehter for a paint gun and for the compressor. but it doesn't look like i'm gonna get a good quality paint job out of that kinda budget.
Assuming I have $100 to spend on a gun, is it even possible to find one that will do a good job?
I'm not looking for a show quality paint job here but i'm definitly hoping for leaps and bounds over your basic Maaco jobs.
I plan on painting the car Pacific Blue Pearl (no metalics)
any suggestions for me?

honestly it depends on YOU THE PAINTER. and how confortable YOU are with cleaning and changing the nozzle tips to different sizes in order to blow paint throw it.
clearcoats & metallics = 1.2-1.4
basecoats= 1.3-1.4
primer= 1.4-2.0 or sometimes bigger depending on paint.
its nice to have 3 guns but usually only 1 or 2 are needed. pick a gun that is versitile and read the purpose for that gun

Shoot Primer with the cheap Harbor freight $9.95 gun if it doesnt get cleaned good throw it in the trash. But I highly suggest using a quality spray gun for base and even more so when spraying your clear coat. Spend minimum of $100 for a gun. Personal preference is a Sata or Iwata. Also make sure you are using an aircompressor that can do at least 9-10cfm at 90psi. You dont want pressure fluctuations at your gun when spraying it can change the pattern and the amount of material being applied. Can also affect color and wreak havoc on Metallic paint jobs. Dont be cheap and buy the good stuff. The Price of paint and clear isnt cheap so if your not gonna do a good job dont do it at all.
