Default 94 Accord Exhaust Problem

I have an OEM 1994 Honda Accord. I didnt do modify it or anything, because I dont have $ to. Last week, is started noticing a rattling sound when i pressed the accelerator. I took it into the mechanic today and he first thought it was a loost heat sink, but it turns out that its the muffler /exhaust thats the problem.

My car sounds like one of those "coffee can" exhaust cars, but i did nothing to make it sound that way. Thats gotta be bad, right?

I need to replace the part, but Im not sure what i need to do. I was told and shown by the mechanic that the muffler that was on my car was welded on. He said that if i wanted to replace it with a stock exhaust, I would need to replace the assembly from the catalytic converter to the muffler. The other option he said was that I could buy an aftermarket muffler and attach it myself, but that would require welding. All in all, he gave me a price quote of $161 for the stock part (assmebly from converter to exhaust) and $50 for 1hr of labor.

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what my options are here. I'm a poor college student and would like something affordable, but also reliable. Any suggestions? Anything appreciated. Thanks

wow!! $161 for a stock B pipe and muffler? that seems pretty damn good for OEM parts (maybe they're not genuine honda parts).

any way for 210 (parts and labor) you're not going to get a much better deal/value in anything aftermarket. The cheapest you'll find an aftermarket muffler for is probably 100 bucks but its gonna be rusted at the seams inless the 12 months (depending where you live). go with the stock stuff. it'll last longer.

get some other opinions though.

i have a full stock exhaust for a 94-95 accord minus the catalytic converter
you could bolt off yours and bolt up this your self i would sell it for next to nothing but i have no idea how much shipping would be im sure this option would be less than the $211 i can provide a picture of the parts if you want. let me know if this is feasible for you.

edit: if anyone knows the wieght of a stock catback setup you can use my zip to get a shipping qoute. ( 66112 ) i tired ordering a catback from importparts.com and my shipping was $25.90 for UPS ground.

go with the stock stuff. it'll last longer.
And if a dealer installs it, the replacement muffler will have a lifetime warranty.

Hey thanks for the help everyone, but later last nite, the sound got really really loud and after taking it to midas for a second opinion and an estimate of $350, i decided to go with the mom and pop garage for $210. I'm getting my brake rotors machined for $20 per rotor. Labor rate is $50/hr. I hope these guys will be nice to me.

I Have another question. My blower fan stopped working on the lower 3 levels, only works on level 4 for both heat and AC. any ideas of whats wrong and how to fix it? Thanks again.
