gas tank sensor broken?
so i just got back from Shell and filled up. However, i didn't fill up all the way. i leave the pump by itself and let it stop whenever, for some reason it stopped not even near full tank, i'd say about 2 bars over half tank. i had about 4 bars left when i went to go fill up. This isn't the first time it's had this problem, the last time i filled it up short me 1 bar of gas. is there somethin wrong with the sensor?
hmmm i dunno. mine just happened.
anyway, i took it to Honda today and they wanted $150 for a diagnostic...forget that. I explained what had happened at the gas station and they believe it probably is the sensor or maybe even the gauge or something. Since they wanted $150 just for a diagnostic i left. $150 just to look at the car is ridiculous...
hopefully i can get it fixed on tuesday when i bring it to my mechanic.

Mines done that a couple times. Mine also worked like crap after I was driving around with the gas light on just to give my self an idea of how long it would last
I'm not recommending non-Honda shops, but they have always done free diagnosis for me on my other cars. Makes it cheap'n'easy to do the repair yourself (if you are able of course)

When I broke my master cylinder after having my car for ap1 for two days, I told them what was wrong and they still wanted to charge for diagnosis. Unless you got the serves writer pregnant they will charge you
hah. nah my mechanic does honda and acura only. not even toyota now that i think of it. been going to him for over 10 years now, free diagnosis. i just went to Honda to check if the warranty was over or not, 3 years came before the 36k miles...weak
I had to read this a few times. How can this be a gas tank sensor? The only thing that's going to tell the gas station's pump to stop is the gas pump itself. The car doesn't tell the station's pump when to stop putting fuel in your tank. Am I missing something here?
I had a jeep wrangler and for a month it wouldnt let me pump more then half a tank, my mom knew the problem but I forgot what she told me... Ill ask to night
pumps do that now and again - it just means that the fuel is pumping quicker that the fuel tank inlet can clear it, so it clicks off the pump - just wait a few seconds and carry on..
took it to my mechanic. says there were no mechanical problems. said if anything the gauge sensor or something was dirty so he cleaned it. he filled it up for me and it worked fine.
Must have been the Shell pumps.... i'll see when i fill up next week

i've tried looking up fuel system diagrams to refresh my memory but was unable to find anything that help....i might not be 100% correct but here it goes: yes, you are missing something. the pressure within the fuel tank is one factor that shuts off the fuel that is being pumped in. if a relief valve within the charcoal canister is not operating correctly (stuck open/ close i dont remember) it can cause excessive pressure in fuel tank which in turn shuts off incoming fuel. maybe someone who is more informed with fuel systems can elaborate where i left off. once again i may not be 100% correct.

hell of alot better deal than Honda that's for sure. $150 to look at the thing there. $45 and $30 of free gas, i'll take it!
