PO170 and PO172 on S2K HELP!
I recently purchased MY04 with 54k on it everything was great for about 700miles (Note: I took off the cover for the air filter housing for the time being) way too restrictive for the time being IMO. After the first 700 miles I got a CEL light so I put the housing back on, and whoa the light was gone. It's been ok for the past 650 miles I put on it since the CEL light had came on, but yesterday on my way to work the cel came back on and this time I've had the air filter housing on.

If anyone has gone though this and found a fix let me know what you did to fix it.
I seached the bulletin boards on Mitchell on demand and found a bulletin for the same codes it said if you recently replaced a T-belt or a water pump that one camscould be off timing, but we don't have T-belts and our water pump is belt driven. I don't see how this would affect it unless the were speaking in general and by T-belt they ment T-Chain if anyone has had this code what did you do to correct it.

sounds like the maf is dirty/broken or you have a bad 02 sensor. I think there is a "maf wack" trick or something...might fix the problem. Did you delete the codes? did they come back immediately? Is the car running like ****?

I didnt know S2000's came with MAF's??? Please check the vac line to the fpr is on.

The codes come back every so often, they go away after so much driving (they reset with the drive cycle). the car runs ok for a while, but I do feel it kind of slow. the s2ki usually starts to bog for a bit; it goes back to normal and boom a cel light comes on. I will check all vacuum lines and sensor connections this weekend and keep post of this issue.
thanks guys!

put the top of the air box back on.
I don't think the CEL has to do with the timing chain. I bet it has to do w/ an O2 sensor.
And S2000's don't have MAF sensors.

I think i'm a victim of the "map whack" I just never heard of this common problem setting off a cel light. that's the only reason I haven't gone into that just yet. I think it might be a different prob, but ill give it a shot.
map = manifold absolute pressure sensor
maf = mass air flow sensor also know as the air mass sensor or mass sensor.
for those who are a bit confused.
my vacation starts this weekend so ill do a theral check.
