Default Ran over plastic bag, now axles arent receiving power.

My friend ran over a giant piece of plastic wrap on the freeway. Kinda like serran (sp) wrap. A couple of miles later, the axles stopped receiving power. I took a look at the axle on and on the driver side where the axle meets the tranny, theres plastic wrapped around that area. What could cause the axle not to spin? Could the plastic have seized the axle? The cv boots are fine and everything is good. When he puts the car into gear, the spedometer goes up but the car isnt getting power. All gears work fine.

Lift the front end off the ground and try spinning the wheels by hand. Do you hear the gears moving, or do they spin freely? I can't picture how the plastic would have done it, but it sounds like the differential may be damaged.

Did you have it in gear when you did that?

well your car has on open diff. unless you put an lsd in it. so when you put resistance on one wheel it will stop and the one without resistance will spin. so just make sure there isn't any other plastic jammed anywhere.

plastic is jammed into where the axle meets the tranny. im gonna pull the axle today and remove all the plastic. hopefully that will cure the problem

I've never heard of such pain in the *** troubles for running over a plastic bag, but I hope that's the solution to your friend's problem
