ZC DOHC shift linkage
I really feel like i shouldn't have to ask this, but if I swap my D15B7 for a DOHC ZC since it's still a d series motor i can use the same shift linkage right? All I really need is a new ecu and tranny right? I think I can even use the same motor mounts.

Yeah it works. You don't need a tranny either. Or an ECU, just get your P06 chipped to run P29 maps, its probably cheaper.

I'm doing the exact same swap. Your best route is to use the DOHC ZC motor, EX/Si tranny (DOHC ZC trans has bigger holes in the differential to accomodate the larger axles with an intermediate shaft... the intermediate shaft and axles for it are IMPOSSIBLE to find... i found this out too late so I pulled apart my ZC transmission and replaced the diff with an EX one), because the gear ratios for all three transmissions are identical. shift linkage, engine mounts, and everything else should bolt and plug right up. and like 94EG8 said, you will need to chip your P06 ECU.

eh, i already need the new tranny. Yea i wasn't clear on that. Think it'd be cheaper to get it chipped? I was just going to buy the PM7 ECU. Still haven't decided wether to get the ZC DOHC or the D15b yet. ZC would probably be less work.
I want to swap a b16a2 but i haz no monies to do so.
Thanks for the help

I highly suspect it would be cheaper to get the P06 chipped with P29 basemaps, PM7 is for an OBD0 ZC btw, OBD1 used P29. power wise its a real toss up between the D15B vtec and the ZC. I personally run a D15B vtec, and a friend of mine used to have an OBD1 ZC in his '95 hatch. I drove both lots of times. They're both fun. ZCs are kind of a pain for buying parts though, no US vehicle uses that distributor, although you can OBD1 d-series sensors into it, you just can't get a replacement shaft if the bearing goes bad.

^ he's right about that, just get an EX/Si tranny.
I've put both in, both are easy swaps and in the end its a real toss up. DOHC ZC is kinda neat though cause no one runs them in 5th gens.

You're probably better off just chipping it. you'll probably get a couple more horses out of it if you do that. if you bought the PM7, you'd have to convert to OBD0, so you'd be spending more money.
you were planning on doing the OBD1 version, right?
edit: damn. he got to it before i did. haha.

Thanks for that info, and I wasn't aware the PM7 was obd0. I'll probably go with the D15B simply for the fact that it will be easier to get parts for. I'd love to do the ZC so I could have a DOHC, i think that'd be really fun cause you rarely see a ZC in an EG. But I'm very familiar with the D15b as I currently have the D15B7 and it will be easier and cheaper. I think the D15B that I found was like $100 cheaper. Not sure where I can get my ecu chipped for that around here, guess I'll have to look into it.

Actually, I currently have an ex/si tranny in it. I have a dx, but when my tranny broke I just grabbed another from a salvage yard, unfortunately it grinds and sometimes if i run it in 3rd with too high of rpm, when i let off the gas a little it pops into neutral, then suddenly when i try and push the gas it just revs.
I'll probably replace it with the same thing no matter which engine I get.

I'd say either rebuild the tranny you have or get a complete D15B vtec swap with the tranny, its the same as the EX/Si, note, some of these came with LSD which is kinda neat. I'm running a DX tranny in mine and it really holds in back, I just didn't have the money when i did the swap or would have ordered it.
