Is This a Good Deal?
I stumbled upon a friend of a friend of friend last night fixing up an 89 Civic Hatch to sell, and I'm actually pretty tempted by it, but I'm looking for some other opinions on it.
It's got a B16A (SIR I) swap, supposedly with a Type R valvetrain, but it still had the black valve cover, so I suppose that could be questionable. Not sure of what transmission was in it, but it had LSD. It was lowered on Skunk2 coilovers, and some kind of custom cat-back exhaust that looked pretty well-done. The car was originally an automatic, but the motor swap and auto-to-manual swap was done by a fairly reputable local shop. They used the Hasport mounts with polyurethane bushings.
The body is what really blew me away. It was very smooth and straight, not hardly a ding on it, and the only rust I could see was a little bit by the passenger rear wheel well, which looks fairly easy to fix. The interior was amazingly clean and complete. It was just sitting on the stock 13" steelies. Body had about 250,000 km on it, and the motor seems to be a mystery as it has changed hands a couple times since the swap was done.
The guy said he was looking to get around $2000 for it, so I'm just wondering if this is a good deal at all. Looking in the local ads around here (Toronto, ON area) there is nothing even close to this clean in this price range. I'm also wondering how it will ride, given that it's lowered and has polyurethane motor mounts.
Sorry for the long story, and thanks to anyone who can give me some advice!
