Headroom Problem in GSR for auto-x
After the recent purchase of a 98 GSR, I have been dying to take it to an auto-x but headroom is a major problem. With my helmet on I can not fit in while sitting normally (the only thing that works is the gangsta style position).
I have already tried a Sparco Speed seat with sliders and Sparco base mount but it really had a small effect on my headroom. I also tried a del sol seat and while that had much more headroom than the Speed or stock I still needed about 1-1.5 inches in order to be comfortable while racing.
I am 6’3” and 175 lbs. What is the best alternative? I do not mind if I end up with a racing bucket seat because I will just put it in for auto-x’s and back to stock for street.
I have seen some people with Sparco competition seat mounted to competition brackets that put those straight to the floor instead of having sliders or base mounts. This would require new holes in the floor which I am unsure of whether it would be safe.
If any fellow tall Integra owners have any tips or advice on how to solve this problem I would much appreciate it!

Also, remember that a non-stock seat takes you out of Stock class and, I think, STS. (It might just have to be a reclining seat in STS.)

I know this problem all too well. I have not yet solved this problem but I think I have an issue on the way. I'm getting a Sparco Evo seat that uses side mount brackets, that way I can lower the seat more then a bottom mount seats. I'm also making my own floor brackets (to save money and I hear the Sparco mounts never line up right). I think with this setup I will be able to get the maximum amount of headroom.
I am going to auto-x this weekend with the sunroof open and with a mild slouch to the right for a temporary fix. After this weekend I won't be auto-xing till next year so I'll have more time to plan on how to get headroom.
Thanks for the help guys, anyone else have any advice?

Geratol:
You are right; the Sparco/Wedge engineering brackets are poorly made and do not line up correctly, these however are minor points. In some applications, like mine -'99 prelude- the brackets included w/ my Sparcos RAISED my seating position ~ 1inch over stock, WTF? I returned both the seats and the brackets and am currently planning on making my own mounts/brackets.

At most track events -not sure about auto-x since I dont- you are prohibited from running w/ an open sunroof for obvious reasons.

I (6'0") have to recline my seat 3 or 4 notches. Opening the sun roof doesn't help.
It ends up being OK because I pull the seat WAYYYY forward and am still closer than street to the steering wheel.

Same problem here, im 6'5' and i got some del sol seats and i dont have any problems now. What type of helmet do you have? Might be kinda thick. I have a Simpson Shark Sidewinder and no problems, but it is like 2 mm from the roof. You could trying taking some padding out of a del sol seat, ive heard of some Miata guys doing this.
I just auto-x'd with the sunroof open on Sunday and it wasn't to uncomfortable. I think I am going to try out the del sol seats with a 5-point harness (obviously w/ a rollbar) and if that doesn't work I guess I will try taking out parts of the cushion (it's going to be a auto-x/track only seat).
Btw, I use a motorcycle helmet. Are motorcycle helmets thicker than any other type of helmet?
Thanks for the help.
