Is 194F or 180F the OE temp for the 5th Gen 94 Accord Thermostat ???

Is 194F or 180F the OE temp for the 5th Gen 94 Accord Thermostat ???
Stant who is a major manufacturer of thermostats, is insisting that their information is correct and they are claiming that Technolog, a US company who pays Honda for the information, has told Stant the OE Stat temp is 180 F.
Lastly, I was told by a Subaru master tech, who said his daughter has an accord and that he doubts the 194 F OE Thermostat is the correct translation form Japanese to English, that it is more likely the 180 F temp is the correct Stat, like Stant said it is ... and that the 194 F temp spec sounds more like the spec/temp for ECT Switch A to come on at, otherwise the fans will be running all the time if the two parts are close together and share a close temp ... and that Honda would be more interested in keeping the engine temp lower in the 180 F range [like most vehicles run in], a good bit lower than the ECT Thermoswitch [switch A], because again, the fans will be running all the time -- something I have read about in the archives with guys who put in high temp stats.

The 5th gen Accord thermostat should have an opening up rating of 180° and a fully open rating of 194°.
Hope that helps answer your question Desired_Speeds. Because to tell you the truth I'm not going back to the top of the thread too read that novel the OP posted.

Yes, I finally got an answer that explains the issue. A Honda Master Tech told me that the members of this board are confusing themselves and other newbies to Hondas with the engine temp and the stat temp, which are not the same thing. He told me that the engines were designed to run in the 180 F area and the Stats also stay open in that same temp area. The confusion comes in when the fully open 194 F temp is mentioned. The stats rarely get to or stay at fully open. Otherwise, the fans would run all the time. So, either the Honda OE or the Stant 45878 is the proper Stat to use.
Since I caught some incorrect numbers being tossed around, I will clarify the parameters. The oem 5th gen thermostat begins opening between 169 and 176 degrees Fahrenheit, and is fully open by 194 degrees Fahrenheit (maximum lift of at least 0.31 inches).

Diyer: Yeah, we all know that. THE important spec is that Honda designed these engine to run around 180F. THAT is the spec that matters

Oh, I think you would and alot more like you. YOU kknow the specs I gave are the correct ones and that I worded it far more eloquently and articulate than you did, and that is why you have the bitch in your A s!
P. Adams, a board member has used this same spec, and it was his answer when I was searching the archives on T-stats, that helped me to figure it all out.
Sorry, nice try, but no cigar for you.
