I need help with a 1992 civic cx hatchback!
My buddy blew his lanrings in number 2 and I think number 3 pistons.
He needs the car up and running right away ASAP!
What are the engine alternatives for him?
BTW the stock motor was a real trooper, it lasted 260,000+ miles!!!!!
Anything else you would like to add feel free.
Sorry for the noob post but I am new to the hybrid world and I rather
give my buddy your advices than my own!
Thanks,
AzianAvenger

under $1,000 for now.... Although he might have more money but I have to check. I think his old man might actually lend him some cash.
In fact, he was hoping that his stock motor would last him thru winter of this year and spring of next year. I think he is going to use his $3,000+ tax money next year for a better engine
I feel kinda bad right now because I told him to get this 1992 CX hatch. I told him he can make this car super fast by dropping different engines in it. I think he wants to go turbo also with his hatchback too...

Any b-series swap will require more than just a longblock. you'll neen the axcels, shift linkage, the exhaust may need to be modified, and parst like intake manifold and tb, all related sensors, and possibly a wireing harness and ecu. (there may be some **** I'm forgetting)...anyway I'm in the Chicago area for the summer and just pulled my 93' cx motor a week ago and did b-series swap... myself in my garage at home. No air tools just a cherry picker, and hand tools in less than 15 hours (5 hrs a day for 3-days, not bad for my first time) I still have my cx motor it is in good working order, did'nt burn oil, the damn thing could chirp 2nd gear so the clutch was good, no grinds with the tranny either it has 145,000 miles on it. I replace the distributor/cap/rotor/plugs/and plug wires, with new parts less than a month ago when I bought the car. I honestly think this motor could run for another couple of years at least. It honestly ran great up untill I pulled it and I didnt beat the **** out of it before pulling it (like some people do) cause I planned on selling it and I'm not an idiot. Let me know if your boy is interested, we can work something out, I'll even throw it in if he really needs me too, (for a few extra bucks). This is the cheapist alternative you'll find...mostlikely.

If you really want a engine to get you by, in a week i'll have my vx engine/tranny/ecu/axles out of my car. Has 118k miles and runs great, no smoke. For the grand total of $100 and you pick up you can have all of it.

I assume you mean he blew his Ringlands? If so just replace the pistons and do a quick hone on the cylinders. You can even do it with the engine in the car if your feeling particularly ghetto
If he broke the lands though he has a detonation/tuning problem and that needs to be addressed.

Not only I need the engine and transmission (5 speed), I believe I need the stock cat and stock exhaust to pass emissions!
Anyone have any ideas?

This is for a 1992 CX civic hatch with no frills or thrills

Ok, so find another CX, VX, DX, or Si swap for cheap. Most you'll pay for an entire swap is usually ~$500.
Why spend more money than you have to?
