Default Installing My Own Alarm?

Just how hard is it?

Of course everything would be all soldiered and heat shrinked etc.
It's a Compustar, remote start, piezos, battery back up, glass breakage, tilt, shock, express window roll up, etc.

What have you installed before? And do you know how to solder?

I've installed lot of various 12V accessories into Jeeps and Hondas over the years. Gauges, fog lights, stereo equipment, etc.

I do know how to solder.

basic alarm install is not that hard at all. same as any other electronics, its the matter of following directions and connecting the right wires together. unlike gauges and stereos, you might want to think about stealth and ways to make the alarm more effective. when installing, think of any flaws that could lead to easy disabling of alarm and ways to make it more secure.

what model compustar is it?

It's a 2W900FM-AS, an alarm/remote start.

What kind of backup batt. did you get?
I do not know of any that will work with the 2W900FM-AS, as power for the alarm and remote start come from the same heavy gauge 12V+ constant input leads.

If you have installed 12 volt equipment into cars you should not have too many problems, and we are always here to help. 94

I don't have a back up battery. Didn't bother to buy one.
Think I'm just going to put it in as it sits for now.

You can use the DEI 520t, and all you have to do is use the provided harness with the compustar to hook it up. 2 pin harness, red and black wires, and you just hook up the battery backup to that. That will not cause any interference with the remote start aspect of the car, since the back-up battery is only applicable to the alarm.

Before now I had only skimmed through that post, I've now read it in detail.
I've got an idea what to start with now, going to plan out the wiring and get rid of the wires I don't need on the alarm.

Alright so doing a stealth install with remote start is apparently a bitch from what I've read since the wires go to the ignition harness.

Anyway around running the wires to the ignition harness and still retaining my remote start?

No, not really. You have to tap into those main ignition wires somewhere.

EG; starter and starter cut, [if your installing starter cut] can be made at the starter relay, and if connection is made after the relay, no connection has to be made to the CIS, [clutch interlock switch].

Are you doing a "full on stealth" install, [dash pull] or just a "semi stealth" install, [no dash pull]? 94

fcm, I'll take a quick shot of what I'm talking about when I'm in the shop tomorrow and post up a pic.

A batt. back-up option is only available, [the last time I checked] for the "PRO" line of Compustar alarm/remote starters, according to Compustar that's still the case, but if you have a way to do it on the 2W900FM-AS, post it up. 94

I'm sure there's a way to do it.
The question is how.

??? You mean like behind some bullet proof plexi like at the bank? If they can see it, it's all over.

Did you read the stickies?

If wiring is made to look like stock, I mean exactly like stock, [same colors, same loom/covering, same tape same type of connections] it can be in plain sight, [under dash] and still be stealth.

Some of the alarm wiring in my car is visible, but you would not be able to tell, the Acura service department tech could not tell, there have been 3 attempts, [that I know of] at stealing my teg, not one of them even got past the alarm, so don't say it's "all over" till it is. 94

You have to tap into one ignition wire between the fuse box and ignition switch. There is no where else to tap into it, not even on the back of the fuse box. This wire is distributed though the box and if you tap into the many wires it splits into afterward you are defeating all the fuses. You could open up the fuse box and tap into it there like I did but I would not recommend a novice do this. You have to pull the dash to do it this way. So I stand by my previous statement.

Hrm...guess I'll have to do it at the ignition but make it look factory.

And pictures of how these connections should made to look factory?

It covers how to make your connections look factory. It's pretty self explanatory though.

So, you have OEM-looking-colored wires running through? I've considered doing this, may have to pick up various striped wires and run my install.
