Default Harbor Frieght HVLP spray guns...

I was thinking about picking up one of these guns since the price is right. I'm only going to be spraying little things like wheels, lips...etc.

http://search.harborfreight.co...it=Go

I see there are a few to choose from, which should I go with?

i still have the Devilbiss thats on the bottom of that page but if all you painting is little things most any of those guns will work just be sure to get one of the gravity feed ones and not the pressure pot ones ive used a couple cheapies like those to paint whole cars and the results were fine its just if you know how to use it

Cool. Trying to learn so starting off small, have been using cans for years, but just want to see how it is with a gun.

I've try a harbor freight gun the one that they always have on special for $14 and its horrible for paint base and clear coat but is excellent for primer.
I would recomend putting in a little bit more and get a devilbiss finishline. You can get it here for $98 shipped.

Well I'm only going to see if I can pick up on spray technique and such first and how I do. So I don't really want to spend a lot on the first gun. But I'll keep that saved, thanks.

I would spend a couple of bucks and get a good one.

I'm embarassed to say that I have on more then one occasion went "cheap" with my paint gun, and thus has caused me more problems down the road.

Although I have learned from my mistakes, I much rather would have gotten a good one rather then a cheap one.

Have you looked at TCPglobal.com yet?

I dunno, I've been reading a lot of 'reviews' with that gun and it's only 30bux so I can't hurt.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

I own my own body shop and use only the highest quality guns on the market. I have Iwata one for base and the other for clear. Those harbor freight guns are not good at all and only recommend using them for shooting sealer or primer but not color. I think you can get away with shooting solid colors but do not use them for metallics!

I remember that too, I think it was done in his garage as well. Thanks for the tip. Is there a really good forum/site dedicated for this type of stuff?

DO NOT go with harbor freight im goin to school for auto body ATM. i have the snap on gun which is not a bad gun. to start off i would go with a devilbus spray gun the best hands down but cost about 400 bucks is the devilbus GTI best gun i have ever sprayed with in my entire life.

It didnt spray too bad...but seeing as this is the only gun i have ever used i wouldnt have anything else to compare it to...this was my first time spraying a car ... no prior experience just trial and error...this is why i saw the harbor freight gun as being perfect for me...cause this was my first time spraying anything...just play with the settings and make sure you have a test canvas to play on

So you're currently in autobody school ---- Im sure your life experience with different spray guns is quite lengthy.

That rootbeer DC looks great --- considering he painted that car outside, with an HF gun and no prior experience, I don't think an HF gun is necessarily the devil. For the price I dont think you can go wrong.

Now if you have a boot to spray in, your paint materials alone are in the upper echelon of the price range, and you have absolutely no room for error because you are restoring a 1966 Ferrari, then by all means get an expensive gun.

The thing about it is, if somebody is asking about the HF gun, they are probably a beginner. As such, there is going to be a huge learning curve anyway. Trial and error like luvtositdumpt described. I don't think the most expensive gun is the right gun in these situations.

yes, if someone is asking about harbor freight guns then they are surely a beginner...of course if i had the experience and lots more knowledge than i do or have a career out of painting then yes i would go with the more expensive guns...but as a beginner they would not need to dup so much money into a gun that pricey...
