a power steering leak
Hey guys I got a power steering leak. Its not in the lines or not in the compressor. Its like near the left wheel were the rubber boot is. Do you guys know the name of that thing? Its always wet underneath. You have a clue what is it and about how much is it?
the rack is toast. it actually leaks from inside the boot. both boots are ripped correct? because mine started on the left side, then was leaking on the other side and i bought a new rack.
same thing happened to me. fluid leaked out through the boots, the resevior was bone dry, then the power steering went out. I was told by my gf's uncle who is a mechanic that I need a new steering rack.

is it called rack or rack and pinion? can I get a used one or better off with a new one?

its a rack and pinion, RACK is for short.
i'd look for a rebuilt one, but i actually found one where the car had very few KMS that i know worked, and i got for an excellent price.
