92 cr250r burning crankcase oil?
A friend of mine traded his Yamaha warrior for a 92 cr250r. The bike runs real good it just burns alot of crankcase oil. From what i have read the most common reason for this is the right side crank seal. Anyone know how hard those are to replace? Can it be done on the bike or do the cases need split? Anyone know where i can download a manual for this thing so I have an idea what we are in for?
most likely the right side seal. it also can be a cracked crankcase or the case halves may just need to be sealed up again with honda bond.
what ever the problem is, you have to split the cases. You'll probably end up spending $200 in parts like bearings, seals, and gaskets. I don't think it's a job for someone who has no experience because there's alot to do and you need a few special tools but it is possible.
I suggest you disassemble the cylinder and piston then remove the lower half and take it to a shop to have them do a complete rebuild for you

We have done rebuilds on is old warrior and my 200x before so we have experience. He also has a fsm coming so we are good there. what all do you recommend we replace while its apart? the bike has ~175 lb of compression cold so the rings seem fine it runs great except for the oil issue.
if you don't want to rebuild the lower end which is probably a good idea, (includes taking apart the crank and and replacing the needle bearing on the big end) you can also just purchase a rod and crank kit that's ready to drop in but they're expensive. The least you want to do is replace the case bearings for the crank, both right and left seals. I guess check all the bearing in the trans and see if they're good and replace the ones you'd like.
^ As stated it is most likely from the crank seals. While the halves are split replace the crank bearings as well. I would highly recommend replacing the rings (or ring) and a hone on the cylinder as well.
And btw, thank god he got rid of that pig of a warrior. I have owned 2 in the past, and never again!

Ya that thing broke every time we took it out. My little 200x was tired of pulling it around lol.
Well we pulled the side cover off with the motor on the bike and found that the seal had pushed out. We got the new seal in and every thing seems grate the smoke cleared right up. The only issue we are having now is with the kick starter not wanting to return right.
