Default I need recommendations for gauge placement...

After a couple motors that went on me in the past, my next project is to put a slew of gauges to monitor everything the motor is doing. My question is, where should i place them without looking 'ricey' or 'stupid'. What is the JDM way to put gauges in the cabin. My last hatch had 3 on the A-pillar which was nice but i know i could of put them somewhere better than on the pillar. Recommendations would be greatly appreciated. And since im on the subject of gauges, what would be the best main gauge cluster in an EG for a new project. Either a white-faced EG6, ITR, Spoon ITR, or and S2000 cluster. Let me know what you think...

Heres a quick picture of my last project:

Thanks...

That is a tough question for me, someone else may have better insight...I can't think of a spot that would be easy to see them that doesn't look ricy.

As far as the gauge cluster goes I am a big fan of the stock EG Civic cluster, simple is better IMO.

Stock EG > Teg > S2000

Alright, i had a single cam cluster in my previous car which was nice but i thought the tach and speedo was kinda small, and i love how much bigger the teg gauges are in there cluster, but making one of those fit would be alot of fabrication to make it look like its been there originally not to mention the time taken to custom wire it up. Thanks for your advice tho...

i say do like i have on my 240 with my defi gauges and mount them dirrectly on top of the dash. If you buy defi gauges they come with gauge cups that work extremely well and look very clean mounted up like this. not to mention its just a small glance down to see whats up with the motor while you've got your foot in it

I was looking at Defi, i love the idea of having dash-mounted gauges especially in an amber or a bright white color. I may have to split up the way there mounted tho, cause i want somewhere like 4-6 gauges in the car cause i wanna monitor EVERYTHING. So maybe i can mount 4 on the dash (if it doesnt look overwhelming) and maybe get a JDM audio console to mount the others and keep them kinda hidden from plain sight. How much do you think would be a safe amount of gauges to mount of the dash without going overboard???...

Those are awesome, and i think thats what im gonna go for...Im gonna get a JDM audio console that holds 2 din which can house the 6 gauges that i was originally looking for, thanks for the site...

I think they will look way cleaner than what i was originally thinking about, and im sure they would work despite them being German, i see them in 240's all the time...

fo sho the come in left and rhd. the DIN designation only means that they meet regulations for visibility in germany i think, dont quote me on that. they are definitely awesome though, i want one for my car too.

1-din refers to size. A regular head unit will be 1-din. The double fat head units that seem to come over in many JDM cars are 2-din (or double din).

It's a size thing and has nothing to do with stricter 'visibility regulations.' German's got over that whole genetic superiority thing like sixty years ago.

Yea its good they come with 2 temps and 1 pressure (oil and water temp and oil pressure), but i emailed them asking if i can switch out gauges for ones that ill need, cause im thinking of getting 2 of those 1-din units for 6 gauges...
