Would you have to: no. If you replace the head, obviously the new one will not be ported and polished.

ya it was kind of a dumb question but i dont no if i should change the heads. just so i hunderstand the b18b1 has 142 hp will porting and polishing give my more than that or will it just clean out the engine so i get all 142 hp

it will make the head flow better. youll have more POTENTIAL power, but youd be better off buying a vtec head and porting that. your motor has 142 hp at the crank not to the wheels. if you remove ps and ac youll regain the power lost to parasitic loss.

the ac is a freewheel when it's not turned on. how much is the PS again, like 1hp or so? the best part about ditching AC is the reduction in weight. the PS, i just don't get that. you make your life that much harder for no measurable gain.

Not to veer off the original topic, but I got 6 whp with an ITR motor on a Dynojet 224 by removing power steering. I got just under 4whp with a GSR motor on a Mustang Dyno by removing power steering. It's not much, but combined with the weight reduction it's definitely significant.

Alot of your posts have good info so i'm guessing you know quite a bit more than me. I was just wondering if your motors were built at all. I'm thinking that they might be. I'm also thinking that the average H-Ter will just have simple bolt ons at best and might not see such a big hp jump from removing the ps. If they were stock motors tho that is a good jump. I didn't think there was that much weight in the ps system as a whole, at least compaired to the AC system. One more question, i always thought there was like a +\- 5 hp error factor for dynos in general, especially when compairing to different dyno brands.

Stock motors, stock airboxes, stock ECU's, both motors had a header, exhaust, and no cat. Each car was measured same day both before and after on the same dyno (DJ for the ITR, MD for the GSR respectively). Mustang Dynos do generally read lower than Dynojets though.

You are correct, removing the power steering system doesn't give quite the weight advantage that removing the air conditioning does, but there's definitely some weight there.
