Gen 5 headlights?
A couple recent threads let me understand there are no cheap/easy ways out of hazy headlights for a Gen 6.
How about the Gen 5 cars? I'm still shaping up what I want to get, but probably a Gen 6. I looked at a couple what I think are Gen 5 cars in the parking lot at work and they looked like glass headlight lenses. True?
They won't swap right into a Gen 6 car, will they???

Hmmm.
So maybe I want a Gen 5 car.
Better mpg than the Gen 6 overall and apparently better front lenses.
Unfortunately Gen 5 are closer to getting rusty up here in snow + salt country (CT).
Any other comments on those topics?

I'm a bigger fan of the 5th gens then the 6th gens, for whatever reason, maybe because i drive one.

Come on over here to atlantic canada, we passed closer to getting rusty about 6 years ago. I've seen several 5th gen hatches here with 2x4s under the front seats to keep them from going through the floor, non existant quarter panels, softball sized holes in front fenders. biggest thing is look at where the rear fenders meet the rear bumper, and check the floor. I'd take a good shell with a blown engine over a rusty shell with a good powertrain anyday.

Yes - I've seen a couple with rust where the fender meets the rear bumper.
Easy to see when the rust comes through the paint!
How do I spot it from the back side??? Can you see it from the trunk??
Where exactly does the floor like to rot??
If I had a shop + lift it would be easy to look it all over.
But I'm gonna be reaching under with my arm I think -
where do I look for floor rust?
Thanks!!

It's really easy to fix 6th gen headlights that have hazed up.

Grab the rear fender with your hand and squeeze, feel up inside for evidence of bodyfill and severe rust

Mostly it starts under the drivers footwell, but i've seen the entire drivers side of the floor rot out from front to back. take a jack and a piece of cardboard with you if nothing else so you can kind of get under the car, at the very least take a flashlight with you.[/QUOTE]
