Default SI: Recommendation For Clutch?

So my clutch is starting to go and I think it is about time to replace it.

I drive a 2000 Honda Civic SI with a K&N Cold Air Typhoon Kit installed, a short shifter and am going to get some headers soon. However, my main goal at this point is to get a clutch better than a OEM replacement and that'll handle the HP & Torque I will have.

So any recommendations?

What I've been thinking is either an ACT Or Exedy Stage 2 Clutch and an ACT Flywheel. Any thoughts on it?

My buddy who is a mechanic checked it out and says that my clutch could only lasst about three weeks tops so I am in a pinch.

with those mods... i'd say get an oem replacement or a excedy stage 1. those mods you did (and plan on doing) add like 3 hp on a good day.

considering the parts you listed, the stock clutch will be more then good enough. you maybe have an extra 5 hp with all that stuff. i really dont see how a shot shifter will help out on power any. and there is only one header.

Mk, well, I would like to stick with something other than an OEM replacement at this point.

And considering your suggestions, how would the Exedy Organic Racing Clutch sound in comparison to the OEM or any Stage 1?

And i knew that about headers, just writing header sounds weird to me.

i think that sounds like too much clutch. not that it's going to hurt anything but why put in a stiffer clutch for such a mild daily driver if you don't have to?

with your mods right now, there is no need for you to get a stage 1 or 2 or 3 clutch, etc.

the exedy organic clutch is plenty fine.

well a racing clutch could effect drivability. a harsher grabbing clutch doesnt engage as smooth, and might give you some chatter when your trying to take off from a stop, unless if your reving your motor up and dumping the clutch.

the reason for upgrading a clutch is to hold the extra power, which you dont have, from the likes of some sort of forced induction. save yourself the money and go with a stock replacement.

I guess I am just thinking this way because of future modifications that I have planned, I don't want to purchase a clutch that I'm going to have eventually get rid of.

(Haven't decided on manufacturers)
My future plans are for a catback exhaust along with a new exhaust system. Some more may come along the way but those are the only things that are floating in my mind at this time.

If I go with Organic, I'm expecting to have to purchase a flywheel, ACT sound good? Or perhaps another company?

if you get the organic one you don't need to purchase a flywheel. your normal one will have no problems. again your future plans of a cat back and a exhaust system (same thing btw) you will not need a heavy duty clutch. with you intake, exhaust, and header you'll maybe gain like 10hp (being generous here). really unless you plan on turboing it or adding some nitrous you don't need a heavier duty clutch.

We ran a OEM flywheel at 425whp. You don't need to replace your flywheel. Just have it turned.

Don't be in a big hurry to spend your money on things you don't need. How long have you had the car?

Drive it for a while before you spend more money on things you may not need. Read all you can and decide if you want to step up to a turbo before you buy a header and all the other stuff.

Was a hand me down when my dad got his new car when i got my license and I have been driving it for three years. No plans on turboing, at least not yet anyway.

Fortunately most Stage 1 clutches and a good many Stage 2 clutches are civil enough to not adversely affect the driveability of the car. I ran a Stage 2 Competition Clutch in an otherwise virgin GSR, simply because I ran into a good deal on it. It actually had a lighter pedal action than stock and never chattered at all. I have a Stage 1 on a relatively stock D15B right now and it's only slightly less civil than an OEM clutch.

Basically what I'm trying to say is if you want a Stage 1 clutch, by all means make yourself happy and go get one. It's neither a good idea or a bad idea.
