I have had two Exedy clutches fail like that before. Both with only a few track days and miles on them. Waiting for the current to fail anytime now..

I just ran an archive search in th ITR forum for "exedy", 50% of the results are "fail" threads, "exedy clutch" returned even more trouble threads. Not trying to start an argument but it seems like a common trend considering all the threads I keep seeing every year. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Sucks man. My stock clutch failed like that. I've had my exedy for about 40k now with lots of track use and going strong.

did you cross reference those with people who can't shift worth beans?
Not refering to original poster, but I seem to recall half those threads being something like.. "y0 dawg, I was racin my homeboy in his mom's Caravan and when I shifted to second I accidentally banked it off the rev limiter and then pulled the e brake and then dumped the clutch while rolling backwards down a hill and my car started makin all kinds of noses and wouldn't run. I just cranked Nelly on my Kenwood though so it's all good! Exedy FTL!!!!!111"

I've read some of those threads actually during my clutch search..I think ACT is the clutch most people went with after their Exedy died on them haha.
< who had a ACT HDSS for 80,000 miles and was still strong when I replaced it for boost

My Exedy has about 1800 miles on it now. I was able to break it in for 6 miles by driving it around my neighborhood. Other than that, the 1794 or so miles are all track miles. So far so good.

Every exedy disc i've used would have been better as a paperweight. Very mild use ane either hub or spring failure. They are [freak]ing useless.

I've been through 3 excedy clutchs in 3years. 2 stage 1 and 1 stage 2 clutch. At first they work good but after getting on it they start to slip
now I have ACT in my caR now so either excedy isnt good or 230 whp is too much for it

99.9% of the time, premature failure has entirely to do with an improper or sloppy install.
For example, my old car had a 6-puck ACT race disk which ended up slipping after 4,000Kms, which in turn ended up scoring my flywheel to the point that is was rendered useless, and created an imbalance on the mainshaft which than burned out 4 bearings, all because it wasn't installed properly. The clutch broke in perfectly, and worked as it should have, than BANG! Gonzo while driving to work one day.
I'd look at your installer before you start pointing fingers at a manufacturer, which is a common cop-out. You'll find the margin of human error is far greater than that of mechanical.
Still sucks nonetheless

But honestly how hard is it to install a clutch? Other than the proper torque and torque sequence, there isn't much you can mess up...
