Default Can I get a quick question answered plz?

Here it is:

I am wanting to buy this 95 Clean Title Gsr off this guy that is selling his car..
But the Motor in it is from his boys 94Gsr that had 90K miles on it....

The question is when I go to get it smoged and checked out.. Will they fail me because it is a older year ???.... It is still Obd1 so I was thinking that it would be fine...
Can you guys get back to me asap tring to get the car fast before somebody swoops on it B4 me...

I would say 3500$ is not a bad buy for a 95 Gsr with all 99 bumpers and typeR lip...

A 95 with a 94 engine in it? Not legal.

Additionally, since a smog check is required to sell the car (yay for California), he can't legally sell it. If he did, you could actually sue for him selling you an illegal vehicle.

You can swap any passenger vehicle engine in any car legally, with the restriction of the donor engine coming from a car of the same year or newer. The car is then smogged as if it were the donor car (meaning a 99 Integra engine in an 84 Civic would be smogged as a 99 Integra, and require all smog equipment required on the 99 Integra).

BTW, this applies to ALL states, California is just one of the few places draconian enough to actually check these things (except the smog check to sell part).

As far as I know you shouldn't have a problem getting it to pass smog. That is, if it has all the smog stuff still on it (cat, charcoal canister, etc...).

I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong here as I don't live in Cali nor would I ever. I like being in TN with no emissions what so ever. No cat on my truck and no one cares.
Anyway, if the people at the smog center look at the motor they will notice that the VIN does not match that on the firewall. Therefore they could run the VIN thus finding out that it is from a 1994. Also I'm not sure the order, but IIRC the 10th digit in the VIN indicates the year of production.

it is not legal. Smog places will fail you automatically, I know because my friend use to work at a smog center and that is what they look for. I love to fail cars, because it makes them feel like they are doing their job.

Don't you have to get smogged every year? That seems like it's gonna get expensive after a couple years.

If it's an OBD1 dc2 GSR and the motor thats in it now is an OBD1 dc2 GSR, it should pass. In Jersey they don't look at CEL's at any car older then 1995, or OBD1, but in some states an OLDER motor in a car will not pass but if you did the swap correctly you may have a chance as passing, it's worth a shot. When I had my 95 Integra LS with 94 GSR head it passed..Goodluck.

Thank you all for the help...
Yesterday I went down there and test drove it...
Everything on the car checked out good ..
The motor was set up right ... But what he did not tell me is that it had a LS tranny on the car so it pulled like crap... I said fu*k it and told him I will think about it...
As I was driving home.... I got a call from a boy that found a 4 door GSR clean title.... I took it up because it was on the way back home... went and test drove it and never felt better...

Car: 96 GSR 4 Door
Car color: White...
Miles: 89,467
Outside look: 8/10
Inside Look 9/10
Smog: Passed with fling colors
Price: 3000$ Got it cheap the guy wanted to get a truck that day so he let it go for cheap =-)

Car was 100% stock and was owned by a Family man that did nothing but take care of the family...

here are some pictures:

Thanks to everybody on H-T all the quick info can really get some people out of buying/ wasting money.....

Mac's 94 DB8 project thread: really what made me want to get a 4 door... to many people have 2 doors and it is nice to be different sometimes...
