i cant split the clutch housing from the gear housing, got all the bolts off, got it to come about 1/4 inch apart but cant get it off....any suggestions/advice?

 

There IS a snap ring at one end of one of the shafts and you must remove it in order to separate the two halfs. It's kind o fhard to remove, but putting it back together is easy. Just put the two halfs back together and put the snap ring back in. You will have to tilt the whole thing upside down so the groove "falls" into place and teh snap ring snaps into place. It's the best explanation I can give without being there. Good luck.

There is, but I didn't know until after...I just kept raising it up and down, and beating on it until it fell off

 

Yes, there is a snap ring in the end of the bell housing.
