Hey guys, I'm relatively new here, but my fiance's been lurking for a while. He gets to do all the work on the car, so I get to do the research. =P

Anyhow, we have a 95 Civic LX. Recently it started to do this low/rough idle at some stops (particularly those on a hill), and once or twice the engine even shut off. (One time was due to a steep hill and low gas though.)

Any thoughts on what the cause might be? He says that he thinks the throttle needs cleaned, but we're getting some parts swapped out over the weekend, so we figured we may as well check anything that could be related.

 

If the car has high(er) mileage, blast out the throttle body with cleaner. Try to get some in the idle air control valve port.

 

auto or 5 spd?

 

does it only do it when the car is cold and not warmed up? if so iacv, if it does it all the time i'd check for a vacuum leak and make sure you have plenty of coolant

 

It's an auto, and it it a higher mileage car so we'll try cleaning it out later this week to see if that helps any. Any tips?
