Ok, so I am a noob and don't know the first thing about turbo charging a car but am extremely interested in buying a kit to get started. I have a 95 civic coupe w/ a B16A3 in it. I have heard good things about both Full-race and Peak Boost kits and wanted to get a general consensus on what the community thought here. The car has no A/C in it so that is not an issue. I saw a video on youtube...

of a guy with a peak boost kit that claims he is running stock internals and seemed pretty impressive considering he was racing an S281, GTO. (Those aren't exactly slow cars!!!). Opinions? Advice? Thanks for your time and consideration!

 

Can't go wrong with either man.

Peakboost, fullrace, synapse and afi are the current top dogs when it comes to turbo kits.

AFI has a deal for 2499 right now, I suggest you go check it out.

and with this kit ^^^I can run stock internals at 9-10psi and still retain reliability right? I am concerned because this is a first for me and don't wanna' screw my car up. I almost love it as much as my GF!!! LOL! Is 10psi pushing it too much or would that be okay? I'd PM you w/ these questions but I'm still in the trial phase of my membership. p.s. any videos or articles on this particular kit would be helpful in making a purchase as well if you know where I can find one

 

With ANY kit, what matters is the fuel/timing management and tuning.

Just make sure you don't skimp in those areas.

Full-Race no ands ifs or buts about it. Might be more expansive but its worth it. The Fastest SFWD cars in the world run full-race, that should tell you something.

 

on stock internals i would say you are pushing it since your car has just over a 10:1 compression ratio if i have it right. not only that but i'm pretty sure civic's come with very weak cast bottom ends. so without some stronger internals, you'll probably snap a rod. then again my accord has a weak lower end but i'm going to boost that at 10psi this spring. it's only at 5.8psi right now. i would say somewhere between 6-8lbs would be good since you have a higher compression engine. don't skimp on the tune like the guy above said. Nice kit tho haha

With a good tune 10 psi should be no problem. There are plenty of people on here making over 300whp on stock b16's. As for which company to go with you cant go wrong either way, but if you have the money, personally I'd go with the Full-Race kit.

Can't really go wrong with either. I personally like the AFI due to it's price, and awesome customer service that I've heard so much about.

id say cause it comes with every single thing you need other then your engine mangament and fuel stuff you do see that it includes a fan and such and other kits do not you shouldent have to run to the store for a single thing i no i dident i run peakboost but ive seen full race stuff in person and it was nice as **** also good luck

 

Damn!!! 300whp?!?! on stock internals?!?! I had always heard the the b16a's bottom end was pretty well built as... lets say... compared to the LS bottom end that is known for being weak. So, I understand that breathing treatment (I.H.E.) and tuning have a synergistic relationship... In layman terms... could I take out a GTO (6.0), or a V8 Mustang with one of these turbo set-ups, a good tune, and stock internals?

p.s. finish this sentence: " a good exhaust w/ (blank) turbo set-up would be (blank)"

 

you need to read up more in the forced induction threads there are plenty of good ones and any of those kits will handle your goal of 300whp plus some and the LS bottom end is plenty strong and yes you will be able to take out some v8 iron

The fan is just a generic cheapo ultra overrated CFM setup tho- a 25 dollar part, where besides clearance, the OEM is much better due to having a actual shroud

I mean the downpipe doesnt have a flange on it thats a trip to a shop- When putting on a turbo kit, you constantly have to pickup little pieces here and there IMO

 

i see what your saying but you kinda gotta go to the shop anyway unless you like open down pipe i am not saying they are better just saying i dident have to run to the store for anything with mine and also that ive seen full race in person and it was top notch

edit and that fan is loud as **** it does work

 

Obviously its going to be loud, and by working you mean turning the blade of course- The problem with them there just generic cheap slim fans that overrate the CFM's terribly.

 

peakboost is awesome great service great price great product. I made 318 on bone stock b16 with a 120k on it. Then i got bored and built it

yeah... a "mild" build is what I'm lookin' for. I don't think I wanna' turn this car into a drag racing monster! Just something that would skunk a V8 Mustang, SRT-4, GTO, etc. Maybe even a little auto-x/racing in the future. By the way, at 300whp how fast is that in a light little car like mine? Give me an example of any other car/s that would be similar in performance (sans driver ? Ferris? Ferris Bueller?
