Ive been out of the loop. brake pads? 70% track 30% street CRX
ok so i have my CRX track car. 215hp all motor B18C, blah blah blah. my track day last october at summit proved to me that my HPS are NOT good enough for real track duty. they were fading after about 2-3 laps.
so my question is what are some good pads that can handle the abuse? ive had HP+s on my mind for a while now, but i really dont want them to be REALLY loud as i do still do a bit of street driving. rotor wear is also a bit of a concern. so what can you guys recommend? ive been out of the loop for so long and there's so many pad options out there that i dont know what everyone is running these days.
also what about the rears? ive heard some say to run stock, ive heard some say to run a slightly less agressive pad but still more than OEM. ive tried finding HPS's for the rears but i cant seem to find any for the crx rear. im runnign 10.2" front with ITR calipers/pads and stock crx si rears.
any help is much appreciated

Ive run HP+ on my civic with a gsr on the street and the track with nothing but perfect results from them. I even have them on my race car on 225 Hoosiers with no fad. I don't think they squeal that much on the street, but noise is a very subjective thing, what is not loud to me might be to you. But I would highly recommend the HP+...
Iv ran a handful of track days with HP+ and I am very happy with them. I used to run Valvaline then upgraded to Motul RBF 600. They do make noise on the street so this pad might not be what your looking for. They also do dust a whole lot. I myself don't mind at all as long as they work great on the track, since my car does spend most of its time on the track. Good luck finding a pad.

I've done a lot of testing with the 2500 lb Integra with HP+ and I feel they're an excellent track day pad. They do produce more dust and wear faster than OE pads and for these reasons and a couple of others (like cost and the lack of need for the HP+'s higher coefficient of friction for street use), I would use them primarily for track days. However, for a little street use, they would work fine.

Indeed. I drive my car on the street here and there and they work nicely. It takes a few stops to get them biting nicely from start.

I run the HP+ on the street as well as the track, on the ITR as well as the NSX, and mine don't squeal at all. There is also no unusual rotor wear at all. I like 'em.
I suggest that you give them a try. Heck, they're brake pads, so you'll use them up soon enough anyway; if it turns out you don't like them, try something else next time.

well what are comparable to HP+ in terms of stopping power, and price?
im starting to rethink about the HP+, but i would also like to know what my other options are.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are many proven pads that fit this description currently. Cobalt's GT-Sport stepped up a bunch in price, aggressiveness, and rotor harshness with the redesign, so they're out. Carbotech might have something that works, but I'm just not really a fan of their stuff. Other people are though, and have had great success.
HP+ is probably your best bet.

using my hp+ for dual duty and really cant think of anything that could be better after doing as much reading of opinions that i can. I just bought my second set and it wont be my last
ps, you just missed out on tirerack's deal, got a set of dunlop direzza z1's and they came with a free set of hp+'s

I found that my HP+s faded towards the end of the session on my Integra. Maybe it's just me being extra harsh on the brakes (new to the can and the track).
I find them perfectly fine for the street, but at times they feel a little "numb" when not up to temp. Overall I think they're a good dual purpose pad. Next track day I'm going to be swapping in some old Cobat Spec B pads and dedicated rotor to see how I like them.

CARBOTECH
they stop well, but they wear too dam fast. hp+ are good. a ran them a ton back in the single cam days. now i roll on ht-10s at all times. they dust i guess (all my wheels are black) there not noisy and they dont eat my rotors up. i race, autocross and drive it to and from events all on the same pads.

Are you referring to the AX6 (formerly Panther Plus) or other pads? I find their wear rates very reasonable for mixed street/track use, especially compared to the new Cobalt GTS compound.
I tried the Panther Plus, and didn't like them for dual duty street/track, because they SQUEALED LOUD ALL THE TIME.
Worked nice on the track, though... but so do the Hawk HP+, without the noise.

My AX6s/ Panther Pluses squealed a bit prior to being fully bedded-in, but now they're not loud at all. I like their wider temp range (150F to 1250F) and higher coefficient of friction (~.55) > the HP+ (250F - 1000F; ~.48), but to each his own.

i've ran three sets of the Panther Plus/AX6 pads up front, and love them.if properly bedded in,none of mine have made noise.each set lasted about a year consisting of 5-7 track events(most at two days per event)and 12k+ miles of street driving.i'm okay with that.also, each time i replaced them, they still had a good bit more than the minimum recommended amount of material left-i was just doing my routine spring prep,so i replaced them anyway.
i'm now going to be running the XP8.i was told they have a slightly higher temp ceiling(i never experienced fading with the A6 anyway though),better initial bite and are still streetable.as a bonus, they said they make far less dust than the AX6.we'll see.
for rears,i've worked my way down to less aggressive pads.i started with Axxis Ultimates, and the car always seemed unstable under braking.i went to HPS pads out back, and it helped a lot.when i get my new pads i'm going to try a stock replacement style pad out back, see how that works.

anyone ever use the EBC yellowstuff, the WRX guys seem to love this pad. i'm split on the HP+ front HPS rear combo or switching to yellow. i can't find jack on friction or heat ranges for that pad though.

X2. "Trying" them will be a waste of your money. No reason to do that when there are plenty of other proven pads available.

good to hear, i've had nothing but great luck with hawk on every car i have used them on. sounds like i should stay that way.
You guys who say "x brand is junk" or "y brand is great" need to be more specific. Just about every brand of brake pads makes a variety of pads - some designed for the racetrack, with great performance when hot; some designed for street/track use, with a blend of good performance when hot but okay performance when cold (and hopefully low noise levels); some designed for street use only, with a concentration on low noise levels and dusting; etc. So something you think is junk for YOUR use might be okay for someone else's use, and the same brand might make something better for YOUR use, etc.

that's 100% true, the way the pad is going to be used is critical when you are giving an opinion. heat ranges friction ratings are great, problem is, not every company lists them.

I wasn't thrilled about the panther pluses. They squealed like mad on the street... It took a few stops to warm them up on a cold morning, and I finished off a set on the back straight at road atlanta.
So they were a little bit too aggressive for street, and not quite aggressive enough for track.
I ultimately ended up with a set of carbotech bobcats for street... Low dust, no squeal, and just swap in a set of XP10's for track. 2 track weekends on this setup and I'm happy so far.
